How many miles is TOO many?????

Hello,

After a few years of lurking on this forum without actually owning a Charger I am finally looking to purchase. I am looking at a local North Carolina 2008 R/T. It is a one owner, locally purchased black on black 29R package Charger. It was purchased in January 2009. It has a factory SRT8 exhaust (dealer installed after the initial sale), K&N breather, Diablo (?) tuner, factory window tint and front and rear light/lenses tint. 20" Lorenzo's with 70+% tread left. Has a sunroof, UConnect (dealer installed after the initial sale), but no touchscreen/navigation. The vehicle has been serviced by the same local Dodge dealership and comes with a complete service history from day one. The owner is in sales. His company purchased the car for him (he owns the car outright), pays for the gas and all the maintenance. Whatever was needed the company picked up the tab - truly one lucky guy.

Anyway, here is the kicker, the car has 150K miles on it. The owner just put in a new radiator, new pads, rotors, and hardware kit, ball joints, tie rods, alignment, and power steering. I drove it for quite a while today and did so at highway speeds and it was very smooth. No drift, shake or shimmy. The car is very tight. I loved it. I really want to buy it!

So here I am knowing nothing about these cars other than how they look but really wanting to go through with the purchase.

150K miles - did I say that already? Really, how many miles is too many?

I have an agreement to purchase it for $9,500.

Opinions please and go light - as I said I'm new to all of this.

Sounds like a very nice car with a clean history at a reasonable price. The miles wouldn't bother me a bit. Since he's is sales, they are probably mostly highway miles (that's a good thing). It also got exceptional maintenence that is documented at the dealer.

The car has a factory designated service life of 250k miles so it's really only half-way there. Also, since the miles are mainly highway the engine wear is far less than a short trip vehicle with the same miles. 80% of engine wear occurs on start up and after shut down.

It's not the miles that are important, it's what kind of miles they were...and how it was maintained There are several SRT owners on the Forum with those kind of miles and still going strong. My car has almost 93k miles on it and runs like new.

If it were me, I'd buy it and wouldn't think twice about it. :)

150k is definitely higher than average, but I'll agree with Ddaddy. It seems like it was well-maintained, and with all the work that was just done on it I don't think I'd worry too much. The price seems to reflect the high mileage pretty fairly too.
My car is a 2006 SRT8 with 200,000 miles on it

The service is the key

The engine and trans feel good for another 50-100,000 miles easy on my car.

The front suspension wear items are probably the biggest area of concern. Test drive it over some really crappy roads with turns in them and check for loose play up front.

Other than that, my car runs like a champ
The new pads, rotors, and hardware kit, ball joints, tie rods and alignment, are all normal items along with regular maintenance that you would expect for a 2008. Milage would not concern me but I would check into the maintenance records at the dealership WRT the power steering and the radiator replacement. Especially the radiator and how many times it was serviced. A bad radiator over time can kill the engine life. Good luck with the purchase.
If you would like a build sheet PM me the vin and an email address. I will also check for any warranty restriction or recalls that may exist on the vehicle.
Agree with all the above. In addition, run an oil analysis through Blackstone Labs. For $25, you get to look inside the engine, and it's a great bargain for that much insight.
