So here I am. Months since setting plans in stone to get a Charger (or perhaps Challenger). I *will* get one, whether it's an R/T R&T or SRT8 -- it's in stone. But I'm stuck in my lease until August '08 of my current (First) car, a Pontiac G6 GTP. Yes, yes, I know I could potentially end the lease early -- but it'd spell nothing but lost funds.

Almost daily, I come to the charger forums and routinely ready post after post -- drooling. When I watch a clip of a charger or see a nice picture I sometimes find myself daydreaming I'm driving one and making engine noises and pressing my right foot into the floor. My place of business has internal forums they use for communication and I have a ticker signature with a "XXX until I get my charger" banner. Even my car enthusiast friend has gotten sick of me talking about chargers. :smoke:

How do those of you who have had to/are waiting for their first charger keep sane? I've already pre-planned my mod schedule for what I want to do and have a big ol' folder labeled "CHARGER" on my hard drive. :nervous s

The months can't pass fast enough. It'll be my first RWD, first V8, first Hemi -- with the only other car I've had to date being my current Pontiac G6 GTP.

Sorry... just needed to vent my anxiousness. :silenced:

Ugh... back to lurking... waiting... tick tock... tick tock *stares at clock*

I'll tell you that your anxiety is not in vain. I get ticked when I have to be separated with my Charger ie on the road for business. I HATE rentals now!

The way I kept from going insane is by purchasing one  I tell you, once your drive a RWD car, you never wanna go back to FWD again.

ok, first, since you have the mods planned..... why dont you start buyin them :)
Then you can have them ready for launch date. You could rent a Charger and then drive it on a weekend. Take a nice road trip in it. I do NOT recommend practicing installing the mod pieces however.
Oh, and I am already insane, hence the modding.

While I was waiting a year to get my Daytona I just made sure I found out about everything I could about the Charger and visted the forums daily.

Call up Dodge and get them to do a TV commercial about you daydreaming, driving your co-workers nuts, counting the days, etc. For your talent and idea, ask for a brand new SRT Charger! It would be like those "That thing got a Hemi" commercials.

Then let's do a sacraficial burning of the Pontiac! (just kidding)

I'm in the exact same boat as you, except I hopefully only have 2 to 4 weeks left. Visiting the forums all day long doesn't help though.

I also am in the same situation but I am waiting for tax returns which puts me at the first of February. Waiting to purchase this vehicle has definately taught me to be patient. In the meanwhile I bought a little die cast Charger that sits on the hood of my dash.

enjoy the gas savings while you can!!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily for me I will be getting better gas mileage with the R/T. Right now I get 9mpg in my 5.9L Grand Cherokee. Even an SRT8 would be a step up.

It really depends. I'm kind of hoping that they do away with the giant black stick that seems to be slapped on the roof of the '08 chargers for '09 and to see what the new bee color is for '09. Yellow seems the most bad ass Charger bee color I've seen so far (The B5 Blue really isn't my thing), but I'd want the MyGig and other features that the '08s have brought forth (Yellow '09 bee, anyone? Sigh, I wish). Barring a cool bee color, Black is where it's at.

However, I'm closely watching the Challenger as well to see the final appearance of it come February's Chicago show (I'm half tempted to go given that I'm in Michigan). The concept looks neat and all but I'm not a big fan of the single-bar brake light and some of the overly retro tones. Subtle retro throwbacks are cool, but I want my car to look like it's going to snack on your ride for lunch when you see it in the rear view. Nothing competes with the Charger's front-end. That front-end looks so mean you might as well assume the Charger runs on the blood of first born children.

The potential for a 6.4L Hemi in the Challenger SRT8's 2nd batch of production cars (late '08) puts the two at a nail-biter. We'll see how it plays out. But flat out my next car will be a V8 Hemi from Dodge. That much I know. Assuming everything continues with my finances the way they have been, I'm hoping to be choosing between an '09 Charger SRT8 Super Bee or an '09 Challenger SRT8.

Hearing the difference of a 6.1L Hemi with stock intake/exhaust and aftermarket intake/exhaust makes me want to slap a new intake/exhaust onto it as soon as I can grab the funds to get them after I have the car in my driveway. I'm pondering AFE II CAI and Zoomers... we'll see. I'm not even going to think about how difficult it will be to have to baby the Charger for 500 miles or so before getting to really stomp the throttle and hear its true growl.

How much is the remainder on the lease? Ping a local dealer to see if they wanna help you get an 07 off their lot, this being October and all. If it's less than $2k, maybe they could discount to offset that. Everything is negotiable, and all you stand to lose is a phone call.
Obviously you don't wanna get your hopes up or anything, but you never know until you ask!

I already have a Charger and I am in the same damn position as you. I have a 06 3.5, But an upgrading to an SRT in March (if I can wait that long). At this point I can drive down to the dealership and make it happen, but I am trying to be responsible and wait another 5 (yeah thats FIVE long months) to make this happen. I figure with my tax refund and another five months of savings my registraton and Diablo Preditor can be paid for. Not to mention My payoff amount on the V6 should look a tad better and I should be able to find a new or used 07 SRT for a little less than what they are at now.

Great post. I am in the same situation. It will be 6-9 months before I can get out of the lease on my '05 Dakota and into a '08 Road & Track Charger R/T. Luckily I work where I do, so I can go outside and drive one to get my "fix" whenever I need it. :D

We were happy with our 98 Sebring convertible. No payments, no big threat from car thieves, then a guy runs a red light and totals out the car. So we were forced to go shopping and came home with an 07 R/T R&T. Sometimes circumstances dictate to you. We weren't thrilled with having payments again but it turns out the car is great fun, turns heads and we are glad we bought it. Maybe you can afford it now?

I could likely afford it now, though I am only basing this off of ballpark prices I've seen from forum threads and the like. I will likely be getting the family/employee discount (not sure if this is applicable to SRT8 cars?) and all that fun stuff. So I haven't really sat down and found out the exact dollar amount I would be paying. I've got pristine credit (I was able to lease my very first car zero problems and without a co-signer) and will be either financing through the dealer or perhaps a credit union, we'll see which pans out. I'm mainly forcing myself to be patient so I can wait it out and find the answers to these questions:

-What will the final production Challenger look like (February, Chicago Auto Show)
-Will the 2nd Challenger MY ('09 MY in late '08) have the rumored 6.4L Hemi?
-What will the '09 MY Charger SRT8 Super Bee Color be?
-What the price difference will be for me (taking into account dealer gouging, etc.) between an '09 Charger Super Bee and '09 Challenger SRT8
(I know there's a lot of speculation and inside knowledge/pictures on some of these -- but I'm waiting until it's full blown announced and public from Dodge themselves)

I'm also expecting a raise between now and then which will give me even more room to get the precise car I want.

So hopefully the long wait will be well worth it --- but man... it's hard.

Does anyone know of a no hassle dealership in the Sacramento, CA area? I visited Folsom and Roseville dealerships just to take a look at the available chargers on their lots and wow, pressure, pressure, pressure. You would think dodge wasnt going to make another charger for years to come. I think the fact of my being a single woman with no male escort along for my visits may have come into play a bit also. I may not know all there is to know about the charger, but I am intelligent enough to do research and a bit of price checking and availability checking before I walk into a dealership. I was highly insulted and in turn they lost a sale. I really have my heart set on a charger, so if there is anyone who has a resent good buying experience in the Sacramento, CA area, please let me know what dealership you were at.
