I have done this on my other cars, but for the charger it seems as though the prefered method it to run it under the headliner down. I would think the mirror would be the best choice give its proximity to where you might want to mount a radar. Thoughts ?

I thought it was illegal in most places to hang something from your rear view mirror. I have mine on a non stick pad on my dashboard so I can just rip it off when I park or get pulled over (haven't yet in the charger, knock on wood).

I would mount it to the upper windshield area and simply run a wire to the mirror to get the power to it, put a fuse in the line as well.

I am looking to do the same thing on a 2015 charger. I am curious on what is the best way to get to the power in the mirror, I haven't found an easy way to access it the electronics. I also have a sunroof.

Any suggestions or pictures on getting into the Mirror box would be helpful.

Thanks

From this thread post #3 from Tanbam I wired up my Radar detector to the overhead console. Here are pics of how to remove the console. It is a b*TCH getting it out, it WILL sound like you broke something when you pull it out. Use the method tanbam describes in the post to remove and wire it up.

Completed installing the radar detector.

First let me say that this was a PITA project. Although I haven't added anything to a car or messed with one mechanically in 25 years.

I got the mirror removed but there was not a 12v line to tap into. the hot lines were all 6V.

So I tapped in behind the 12V accessory port in the center console ( you have to remove the plate where your gear shifter is, and then remove the center console to access behind it as well as the two side panels.)

I then ran the wire under the dash up the passenger pillar, across the front edge of the roof liner and the dropped out where the mirror wires are.

I ultimately got the exact result I wanted which was a clean look and my radar detector plug to come from the Mirror, without using up an accessory connection.

Kevman1: What did you use to mount your V-1 up so high on the windshield? In NJ it's illegal to hang anything from the mirror and I've already received one warning recently in my 2006. I have a new SP coming and need to plan the install for moving my V-1 to the new vehicle.

Like Kev Said I also didnt have that Power Harness on the back of the Mirror.
On the 2015 w. auto dimming and 911 assist the mirror is a unibody with power coming in from the Neck. The windshield has a "box" which houses the connectors and it was difficult to remove, but can be done. the next problem is that there is not 12V power in the Mirror, they are all 6V rails.

I have a sunroof so didn't have the overhead console like Kev did. I opted for running from the accessory plug and up the pillar.

Hey Relentless,

I used the suction cup mounts. the mirror on the 2012 is massive and there is no effective way to put a mount on it . Its not the best solution ,but I plan to maybe use some 3m velcro tape and mount it directly to hte windshield at some point. Hope this helps.

Hey Neb,

I have a sunroof as well. my controls for it are in the "console" I was talking about , you should be able to tap into the same, unless the sunroof controls are not overhead anymore ?

I grabbed power from the right pillar and ran cable to the radar detector. I placed it high right above/beside the mirror. From outside its hard to see.

I have a rain sensor and sunroof kit in my center console. Didn't want to play with it.

I guess I kept it simple. I just left mine plugged into the 12v in the center console. I then ran the cord under glovebox, up the passenger pillar then under the headliner to the rearview mirror. From there I mounted it on the windshield behind the rearview. I didn't really feel like splicing into anything. I can just unplug and pull the cord out.

I mount mine beside the mirror, on the drivers side. Mine's more ghetto, the cord goes over the mirror mount and just drops down to the lighter. My mirror doesn't have any power so I couldn't plug it in there, but I do have the homelink, maybe it could power it?

Where are you guys buying your telephone cable from? For some reason it is getting hard to find locally. I get to do the hardwiring all over again for my 2015 SP when it gets here. I wonder how easy it will be to tap into the power outlet in the center console.
