I just placed an order for my 2015 Scat Pack last night, but already trying to get some stuff figured out...

I've found a lot of older posts online, but didn't know if anything has changed on the newer Uconnect system.

#1 ) is there good support for SDXC cards? Or is it limited to 32GB SHDC?

#2 ) can you run a USB hard drive instead of SD card? If so, I'll probably go this route even though it is a little less convenient than just throwing a card in the slot.

#3 ) Is there a list of file formats it will accept anywhere?
#3 a) I'm also assuming video playback is not possible?

#4 ) If you have a ton of songs, does it do a decent job of letting you search for a single one, or play a specific genre/artist without creating & loading your own playlists?

#5 ) Is there any way to hack the newest version to get any extra goodies? From what I can tell, getting into engineering mode was only available on some 2012s...

Other than an updated user interface and the addition of some apps, I believe they're relatively the same. 32gb is the limit as far as I know. I've never used an SD card in mine, but if it formatted for the SD card similar to the way it is for an iPod, then prepare to be very disappointed. It doesn't care what song you choose to play, it picks one for you. Very annoying. Video playback is not possible.

The SD card control is night and day better than the iphone/ipod usb or bluetooth control. I arrange my library by year, then album, to make browsing easier. If you like a lot of genres, divide it up by those as well. The audio search function works decent, not always 100%, but not bad. I have a 64gb SD that I intend to try. Probably needs formatted to FAT32.

As far as formats, mp3 always works for me, WMA is hit and miss, and I haven't tried any others. No image or video support, or custom album artwork. If you want to play songs by genre, arrange the albums in folders by genre. It will play all the albums in a folder before it moves on.

I tried a HDD attached to the USB in the console. I got an error message the disk could not be read. It did power it and I could hear/feel it spin up.
It's the same HDD that I use in the Mustang via USB and the Ford Sync system. Works fine in there.

Hey! I finally get to answer a question!

I usually don't know enough. But, I use a usb flash drive plugged in to the usb port in the console and it works great and sounds great - a lot more reliable than the aux or the bluetooth. I have to admit that I just plugged it in and started driving, so I really haven't played with various features such as search. I prefer to do that sitting still. I haven't tried it yet, but the owner's manual says that the system can play DVDs.

The Uconnect system cannot utilize the hdd. It will only recognize what is called a "mass storage" device... ie... xd card or usb flash drive. The reason why you can use Apple products is because they use the mass storage standard. Any other product plugged into the USB port won't work.

This is mostly correct, but the Apple situation is a little different. Apple products use the iPod Accessory protocol when plugged into the USB cable, not mass storage. You're correct in that you can only use mass storage for a non-Apple USB device.
