After having our gas tank replaced we got a GASCAP message. Bought a cap from the local Advance store (correct match) for a 2006 Charger. Message didn't go away. Service manager at the dealer says it needs to be an OEM cap. Is there any truth to that statement?

It's possible. Aftermarket parts may fit but they don't always meet all of the performance requirements of OEM.

You won't know for sure until you put an OEM cap on.

Got the car back from the dealer. Technician found that he left a hose loose between the tank and charcoal tank. That gave us a gascap message.
