Engine noise after changing rocker arms

1310 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  N8ECH
So i bought by car at 99k miles 2014 v6 charger) and the car came with the infamous ticking sound from rocker arms. I have then changed all 4 camshafts and 24 rocker arms and valve lifters. I don’t know if my engine is supposed to sound like this or i have something wrong please someone give me an idea if this is normal or not? I am up to date on all maintenance and changed all fluids in the car literally.

Not normal.
Take a good look at the water pump just for giggles. Also, the noise (if internal) sounds like it may be timing chain or tensioner related.

So i got fed up with the noise and took it back to the mechanic shop who replaced the cams, rockers, and lifters and he found that the chain was loose and is charging me to replace the timing for that side. Is this ok or should i fight it because i don’t understand how the chain was fine before but once the job was done it’s “loose and worn out” of nowhere. For all this money i put to fix the regular pentastar tick i could of just bought another engine....

In my opinion, he should have assessed the timing chain(s) while he was in there the first time, and replaced them then if they were "loose and worn out." Sounds to me like he did a sloppy job, and you are paying the price for that. A good mechanic will offer a warranty for the work done, and if not done correctly, the additional required work should be no charge to you.
