4X4 Dodge crew cab got a little ahead of me from a stoplight. He eased away from me and I could see him laughing. Lotsa black smoke and the truck looked like it jumped up and was trying to get airborne from the launch. :knockout:

I floored it and barely kept up-- he stayed a nose ahead of me until we backed down at the speed limit.

I think he would have beaten me even if I hadn't let him get the jump on me.

I had no clue those suckers were so fast! Turbo-diesel???

(YES I drive a 2007 R/T-- my poor HEMI couldn't pull ahead)

My friend and I race all the time in his back woods neighborhood. either he cant drive or my daytona is just faster than him. he has a 2005 duelly. i always beat him unless he wants me to feal good. yes his is a turbo. he keeps up with me but i ussually get him after i get into 3rd gear. I am starting to think it might be his driving if you got smoked.

It takes a little tuning, but those diesel trucks can MOVE. My neighbor has a 2000 F-350 Superduty. He's done EVERYTHING possible to it and I bet if I had an SRT-8 with everything done thats currently available, plus a 100 shot of N20, he'd still outrun me.
now i know my friend cant drive, lol. i just wont tell him and take the win, lol. jokes on him.

I almost had the same thing happen to me with a Duramax Diesel 2500. He suckered me pretty good as I thought he had no chance, but I caught him and started easily walking him in 2nd gear.

Talked to him at the next light and he was shocked I was able to beat him at all. He had it chipped and it was putting out over 400 HP. (It was a 2004/05 so he got about 100 HP from just chipping it!) He was disappointed to hear I was bone-stock, but 50+HP doesn't make-up for almost 1,500 pounds more weight.

Still the truck probably could've run high 14's with just that chip. Crazy, we need a turbocharged hemi so we can chip it for cheap HP gain. :)

those trucks with a tuner makes a huge difference. my friend had a 2004 Ram. he bought the hypertech programmer and they claim over 100+ horsepower over stock. i have seen some programmers the boost up to 250 horses and here we stand making another 15 horses.

You mean they are getting 100+ HP with just a [programmer and no extra mods. Thats really hard to believe.

On a turbo diesel... not really. In fact it is quite common to see an even larger jump in TQ.

From what I understand 1000 HP out of a Cummins turbo diesel's isn't a rare thing to see. Granted, there has been a lot more done than just a chip, but that chip is a large part in getting there.

If it was pouring out black smoke its been modded and a modded diesel is scary. Put a couple grand in it and you can make 700 plus ft lbs of torque or more. I remember a guy around here had a modded twin turbo cummings and when he floored his truck the smoke was so thick you could'nt see through it. He told me many stories of racing mustangs and they'd give up because they couldn't see the road when there was no breeze.

This coming week im going to buy a diesel for winter but its going to be also for sale at my friends car lot, so if it sells I'll just go buy another one and keep flipping them to make some extra money. And in the spring Im going to buy a Ram SRT10 for fun, never hurts to have a truck around.

Thanx guys, I never knew these vehicles had that power behind them. i am from a big city(NYC) and was never into trucks. Maybe I will get one of these in the future.

With enough money anything can be fast. If it was a stock truck you'd kill him. I kinda raced a modded ram in my srt8 and he really spun alot and I just motored past him, he gave me the thumbs up and said it sounds wicked. But I dont call it a race since we both were screwing around.

Look up Edge Performance or Banks Engineering they are some big diesel tuners... pretty neat stuff. I know a guy with a VW that had a propane tank in the back of his golf. I asked him you going to a BBQ? He said no, propane is like NOS for gas cars. I said really? And he took me for a ride and you could tell when he was on the bottle, the trippy thing for me is the redlines are so low, like 3500 to 4000 on most diesels.

A 2007 Ram with the 6.7L Cummins is pushing 350 horses and 650 lb feet of torque. Thats the same hp as a Daytona. They are very fast off the line with all of that torque. There are a butt load of chips and mods for the engines and it is easy to add 200+ hp and torque with chips and tuning. A lot of people race diesels at the track because of the power you can generate out of those motors. It is very easy to get them down to low 11's and 12's in the quarter mile. Not bad for a 5-6000 lb 4x4 truck.:knockout:

I was at the dealership getting ready to buy one when I ended up getting the Charger. I decided that I didnt want the payment on a 35k truck right now. The engine is a monster though...
