I read today that you can swap out differentials for better performance and power. I have an 06 Daytona rt and it has the stock differential. Can I put on an srt differential and get more power or performance from it? My ratio is 2.82 and srt is 3.02. What does that mean? And can I take one off a 300 or magnum?

If you are doing a rear diff upgrade look for a getrag unit. You won't find to much difference going from the 2.82 to the 3.06 srt diff. I gained maybe a tenth or 2 at the track. If you want a big change go with the 3.91 getrag unit (also have to change axles and hubs). Light to light will be fun though.
Drawback is that fuel mileage will suffer greatly on the highway due to the higher revs and the rear tires will need to be replaced a bit more often.

And yes you can get rear diff out of any of the LX models.

Ok. What if I don't have a ton of money to spend though, kind of on a lower budget, if the getrag unit is out of my price range then would just the srt one be worth it or not at all??

And I see like the 2.7s all have a 3.90 ratio? Why does it sound like they have higher ratio than the srt? Would that be an even bigger upgrade if I put one of those on?

I'm a first timer just learning so I apologize if these are stupid questions.

Not sure what kind of budget you have but the stock srt is an open diff just like what is in your car already but with the higher 3.06 gears and larger axles. You would have to change the axles anyway.
The 2.7's and the other v6's have a higher ratio rear diff to make up for their lack of overall power. The axles and diff are weaker than what you have now and I don't think you can use with the 5.7.
The 3.91 getrag unit came on the 6 speed srt challengers. You can also get a 3.06 getrag from the auto srt's ( charger, challenger and 300's). The getrag is a LSD diff as opposed to the open diff that you have now.

Hope this helps you a bit.

I don't know what you consider low budget, but I just priced the getrags at the first site I found, and the 3.92 cost 1150, while a 3.73 cost 2500, the 3.06 cost 1350. They showed these prices as reduced. Again, this was just the first site I found. So to me, this isn't low cost, but I'm tight fisted with my $$$. I don't know what kind of performance increase you'd get for the SRT diff's but I would think your 0-60 would increase some without eating into your gas mileage too badly. I've thought about doing a similar upgrade as well. If you can get it from a junkyard or someone selling their old parts, I'd say it would have to be way cheaper than buying a new getrag. But I am no expert by any means, so if these guys say it's not worth it, then maybe we should take their word for it.

Yeah that's much higher than I can afford at this time. I was looking at some old srt differentials off a crashed car for 300-500 bucks. But if the upgrade won't don't much if anything then I won't waste 500 bucks.

Don't forget labour. Also, don't forget you need a programmer like a Predator, to adjust the car's expectation of rear gear-ratio. Without that, you won't be able to drive the car.

You can get a 3.06 getrag lsd for about 3 to 400 from a junkyard . But the axle shaft will run you about 1k new and then you will also need new rear hub bearing from a 12+ car then also as mentioned above a programmer to update the gear ratio. Also you may find that the getrag diff if bought used will require the clutches to be replaced. So figure a total cost of about 1500 to 2k to upgrade to a getrag diff in your car. If your mechanically inclined you can do the swap yourself to save money.

Not trying to be mean, but there is little to no point in needing a LSD in a v6 equipped Charger.
