First 2006 Charger goes up for bid
The Chrysler Group is going to auction off the first volume production 2006 Dodge Charger to roll off the assembly line, along with the autographed race car body shell that was used at its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The auction, which will be held on eBay, will benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Salvation Army. The winning bidder will receive the keys to the Charger from NASCAR legend Richard Petty at the May 7 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The mock race car shell is a replica of NASCAR Rookie-of-the-Year driver Kasey Kahne’s No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Charger. The shell covered the production version of the all-new Dodge Charger, which will be built at the Brampton (Ontario) Assembly Plant, as it was revealed to more than 3,500 international media at the Detroit auto show.

Petty and Kahne took part in the introduction of the vehicle. The NASCAR shell has been autographed by Petty, Kahne and Chrysler Group President and CEO Dieter Zetsche.

“We thought, what better way to support two worthy charitable organizations than by auctioning both items and offering the chance to meet the king himself, Richard Petty?” Zetsche said.

Bidding will begin at on Feb. 1 and will close Feb. 11.

The Victory Junction Gang Camp, a nonprofit organization founded by actor Paul Newman along with Kyle and Pattie Petty, aims to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Salvation Army is dedicated to providing food, clothing and other assistance to the poor.
