I got a check engine light & have to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Now that I got the part, the diagrams on moparpartsoverstock.com websites show the location of the sensor (part 05149230AA) behind the engine block on the driver side. However, I can't see it. Is it possible it's located elsewhere? Or is it behind something else that needs to be removed in order to view it?

Any help would be great

It's located behind the starter in the engine block. You need to remove the starter to get to it.

Thank you for the help. Hoping to find a maintenance manual for my year soon. I changed the crankshaft position sensor & cleared the error but check engine light came back on with same error P0016. Any recommendations?

The next 'reported' fix on the print out with the codes is replacing variable camshaft timing (VCT) solenoid

Was your car part of recall P01? If so has it been done yet? What printout are you using? P0016 diagnosis involves seeing if the DTC is active, then doing an exhaust phaser cleaning with the factory scan tool, then checking the cam and crank sensors and their wiring connectors for issues, checking the cam and crank signals with a lab scope for irregularities, then checking the timing chain.

Yesterday when I was driving to work, the MIL light came on. That is the first time I've ever had it come on in the Charger. I didn't notice anything odd about how the car was running other than when I was sitting in the parking lot with the engine still on, I noticed a slight miss or shudder. I drove the car several times during the day afterwards and each time the MIL light was still on but it drove fine, no shudder/miss. When I got home last night, I hooked my OB2 code reader and pulled P0016 "Crankshaft position-Camshaft position correlation- Bank 1 Sensor A". So today, no MIL light and everything is running fine. I did a little research and read up on the error and apparently after 3 good trips with no fault, the light turns off. This would make sense as I drove 3 additional times after the trip to work when the light came on. So my question is, should I still take it in to the dealer and have them check it? Is there even anything they can check, especially now that the light isn't on? I saw something about a recall in a previous post, but have not received any notifications of any recalls on mine.

Recall P01 is for the timing chain.

I was going off a print out from one of the local scanners at a parts store but ended up taking it to the dealership after the crankshaft sensor didn't eliminate the check engine code. After paying the $87 for diagnosis scanner at Dodge their recommended fix was the same: replace both the crankshaft & camshaft sensor for code P0016. So I went home & replaced the camshaft sensor after I had already replaced the crankshaft sensor, then cleared the code with a scanner. It lasted maybe 10 miles & the code came back. The next "recommended" fix from my printout was to drain & replace both the oil & filter. Since the Dodge dealership wouldn't give me the print out from the diagnosis they ran, I only had the local parts store one. After draining & replacing the oil & filter, and clearing code P0016, it did not come on but code P0441 Evap Purge System did. From what I've read, it has to do with emissions and it's commonly the gas cap but mine has a rubber seal attached to the gas door & it looks in tact. My car is also having a rough idle with about 1000 rpm's instead of the norm I see of 500 rpm's at idle. So I replaced the purge valve, added sea foam product to the gas tank, & cleared the code but it lasted maybe 20 miles & the same P0441 code came back. Now, from what I gather, I have to double check possible torn lines from the purge valve to the vapor canister, if none are found, then change out the vapor canister. If it still doesn't eliminate the code & rough idle, well I will probably lose my mind! The dealership didn't mention any possible recalls and I haven't received a notice but I will check on that. I think its too much of a coincidence that I would have P016 code first then P0441, how do they correlate? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
