has anyone had any experience with the benefits of installing a cold air intake on the charger (or any ohter care for that matter)? I am a novice at all of this but learning... would welcome the thought of adding more power to the engine.... would imagine this would best be done at the same time as adding a new exhaust??? Any advice would be appreciated.... is a cold air intake a mod that a novice can do????

I just added a K&N Aircharger to my baby. I did the job myself and have little or no experience. It took me about two hours to complete the job. It was not hard to remove the old intake and place the new in its place. However, there were so steps on the K&N that were a little difficult like mount the heat shield and some other parts. No big deal.

As far as the benefits I can tell you that it has a little more power and it sounds bad a$$ when you hit the gas. I have also heard that you can see a slight improvement in gas mileage as well. Not sure if this is true or not. I just installed mine yesterday. Oh, did I mention that it sounds bad a$$.

Overall installation, I would try it it again.

that's nonsense, the MDS system and the motor in general will not be hurt by a cold air intake. the MDS system may shut down 4 of 8 cylinders, but think about it this way...

Stock intake takes in X amount of air...MDS turns on and kills 4cyl...

Aftermarket intake takes in Y amount of air, barely over X...MDS still turns on and kills 4cyl...

does that help?

basically i'm just trying to say that 1, CAI's are not in my opinion worth it for the charger, and 2, that they will not cause any harm what so ever to your charger

Ok, I am trying to understand this stuff because I am def a noob. Would I get anything from the K & N drop in filter alone. it seems the only benefit you get from the air intake is when you have the exhaust changed. any info would help

Just added the K&N Kit and love the sound and based on what K&N states it added 24+ horses. The intstallation was simple as well being I never had done one before. I am having trouble getting my pictures to upload so I can't show you the outcome. However, it looks great as well!

to those of you that installed the CAI (it sounds bad A$$).... is it loud all of the time or only under heavy acceleration? I installed flowmaster mufflers (super 40's) and Magnaflow resonators today - they sound nice.... any louder at highway speeds would be distracting as it is my every day car and I need to talk on the cell phone in that car.... will the CAI be even MORE distracting for me? Or is it loud only at lower RPMs???? help?

and yet another question to you all... Chrysler Corporate advised me against the CAI today saying it could, possibly, maybe void my warranty on the engine and to proceed at my own risk even with a MOPAR part in stalled by my dealer! When the rubber hits the road, so to speak, what could possibly happen to my car from installing a CAI?

that to me doesn't make any sense man, i am not saying anything bad about your post, but the fact that the dealership will install the cai (mopar at that) and say they may not help you out on warranty.....that is crazy to me.... i mean if they install it why wouldn't they take care of you....you ARE spending more money at the dealership...they are making more money off of you for part and the labor...common, give me a break (no you littlejohnny - your dealership)! that would kind of irk me a little (can you tell?)

as far as sound still waiting to get mine...dying to get it actually. and i have never heard anything bad about the cai on any car and i live in Louisiana where it always rains and guys drive them around with no problems....have read about the oil getting in engines from some guys on www.lxforums.com but it seems if you put to much oil on the filter you kind of deserve it. i am doing it, just don't have the cash for a few weeks to do it.

so..... how do you feel, bigDaddy, and by the way.... is BigDaddy your name from ole' Bourbon Street's "place" by the same name???? hmmmmm????????

i hear ya loud and clear - - - it miffed me too... I mean, install an aftermarket part manufactured by someone else and I can see, but the DEALER installing what is basically a "FACTORY" item? it should not even be questionned... and here's even more... the dealer and Chrysler both deny having a MOPAR CAI for the car.... idiots....

I'm dying to hear back from anyone with regard to the sound of the CAI.... I am not thrilled with the sound of my new Flowmaster Exhausts with Magnaflow Resonators.... it;s a lot better but there is a certain deep bass that is missing... am hoping that if I install the CAI that I can reap all of the performance benefits as well as the sound benefits without making it too obnoxious inside the car... are my expectations too high here???

I would also be eager to hear what problems (other than oil) may occour... BTW, if oil from the CAI gets into the engine, what happens???

You only hear it under hard acceleration.

For those that haven't heard it, I put up a short clip from my morning commute. In the interests of my transfer quota, I'd appreciate it if you guys could save that to a file locally if you think you'll listen to it more than once.

WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me tell you guys it only took me about 35 min. to install the Mopar CAI and it unleashed so much HP it may just be a little around 10 to 15 I would think without dyno. But man I took it down the road just after I was done and ZIPEEE it flew. I have installed K&N CAI in the past on a 97 Z28 and a 2003 Mustang GT and never did I feel this much HP increase from just a CAI. And the sound, the sound clip from bstowers sounds good but let me tell you another thing try it yourself it sounds even better. I just got to say I am so happy with it and my Zoomers will go in on Tuesday.

I'm tryign to balance the nice growl of a muscle car with the refined interior of a Mercedes.... actually, I want it to sound mean enough but I want to be abel to talk on the cell phone still while cruising.... i ordered mine today for $259 (K&N) fro mMartel Bros with free shipping.... Auto Zone was $339 for the same thing...

After reading the thread Heinee referenced, I doubt you unleashed any HP.
Maybe the noise is making it feel faster.
