Well, I chickened out with my new Charger order. With the potential CAW strike just a few weeks away (one article I read from Toronto used the word "inevitable") I decided to cut and run. I was still in status D and I'm pretty sure they won't get mine built by the deadline of September 20 so I asked my dealership to drop my order and I bought one of the new R/T's they just got in on their lot. So instead of Brilliant Black Crystal Pear I have a new Inferno Red R/T in my driveway. I got the same options I wanted except for the sunroof and gained the upgraded 6 disc CD player and the Sirius radio option instead. I figured this is a wash and in the long run I will most likely get more pleasure out of this package.

I totally love this car! It is so fast! We had our annual car show this weekend here and I entered my new Charger instead of my 1966 Impala just for the fun of it. We parked 3 other Chargers next to mine in cronological order for a cool "trip thru time" kind of effect (1968, 1971, and 1973). I posted this pics in the Photo Gallery. Lots of people stopped and looked, it was a lot of fun.

Now it is time for the mods to start! Yee-Haw!!

Here is the link to an article about the possible strike:

CAW chooses Ford for bargaining target (September 08 2005, 02 PM)

The Canadian Auto Workers has chosen Ford as their target for collective bargaining, which may spare Chrysler from a strike at the busy Ontario LX and minivan plants.

I did the same thing. Took a car in stock that I could see and drive. Rather do it that way.

What is the build timing? That is, once the status changes to "scheduled to build" - (the first step?), how long before it's done and safely on its way. How are times typically running lately, for R/T's with the Performance Group package?

Mine might be a close call. Ordered 8/11. Dealer had none with RTPG at the time, now they have gotten a couple, so I know they're already coming out. Mine's gotta be getting close?

The worst part of this is that my car went into D2 status, which is supposedly "build any day now," two weeks ago and has just been sitting there. I am starting to get very nervous about the strike date on 9/20. It sounds like the Brampton facility could be the target of the strike, due to Chrysler's clout right now in the industry. A strike at Ford or GM would not be as effective.

I figure I have roughly one week to get my car built and released to be safe. I am hoping against all hopes that it is built this week. I have not heard any reason why it should just be sitting there in D2. Most cars are built and released within a few days of going into D2.

I am making an appeal to the Charger Gods here. I am not embarassed to admit it. Please, please, please, mighty Charger Gods, please let my car be built this week! I promise to keep two coats of wax on her at all times and change the oil religiously every 3000 miles. I will not follow tractor trailers too closely to avoid any knicks and chips from stones. I will always allow her to warm up in the winter before putting her into gear. Please, great Charger Gods, hear me and show me your benevolence!!!

I am pretty sure that the Charger Gods prefer Zaino over conventional wax. Isn't that in the book of Iacoca, Chapter 4, Verse 26.

BlackCharger06, thanks for the detailed info! You didn't say, but I bet yours is . . . black?!

Uh, you other guys/gals . . . . . it's getting a little "cultish" around here maybe.

But keep it up, its
() quite funny
() quite understandable

Maybe the financial gods are smiling on mine, since I have 1 or two payments left on the old ride, so actually it's better to wait it out.
BUT I WANT MY CHARGER N O W !!!

If you have a D2 status, it means you should have a firm build date. Have you called Customer Service?

No, I have the guys on the inside at the Brampton Assembly website, but to date they haven't been able to tell me what the hold-up is. I figured once I went to D2, my car would be done within a week. I'm now into my third week of waiting for the car to go to frame.

I have a suspicion that a lot of the Chargers that were ordered before me which had the Protection Package on them are now dropping it, and are hopping back up into the build schedule since they've technically been waiting much longer than I have. It's just the agony of being in D2 and not seeing any change with the car.
