Hello all. I'm gearing up to purchase my first Dodge Charger...actually my first American car ever and was hoping for some friendly advice and what to expect.

I'm looking at the 2015 SXT AWD, which is necessary for these messy NY winters. I've only driven Japanese 4-cylinder hand-me-downs from my parents in my 14-year driving career. After buying my first home a couple years ago this will be my first car purchase. My dad is willing to help with some of the down payment but fears the car may be too expensive for me to maintain.

his concerns lie in the 6 vs. 4 cylinder engine, the cost of oil changes (though I've been reading a lot about this Quantum Blue on here), and general reliability.

I'm excited to hear your experiences and advice. Hopefully you can welcome an American muscle car n00b like myself with open arms.

Thanks

Luckily, the Charger is a low cost car as far as maintenance is concerned

It is usually when you get into the luxury cars when maintenance gets really pricey!

You could call your local Dodge dealership and check what pricing is on a 2015 SXT as far as oil changes. Dealer would charge the most for it, normally, but some are comparable with your local oil and lube places.

With the way cars are nowadays, you will only be doing 1 or 2 oil changes a year, depending on your miles driven.

Thanks guys. I'm excited to take a test drive soon and hopefully take the plunge around August when year-end prices start coming into play.

Anyone have any info about the Quantim Blue? Does it work out to be cheaper by changing oil every 10,000 miles? Does it somehow magically improve gas efficiency?

Congrats on upgrading to a Charger from a long list of 4-cyl cars! It will change your life to go from FWD I4 to AWD/RWD V6 (or V8). As long as you go easy on the tires, even still tires aren't that expensive even for the factory 20" wheels, you shouldn't have much if any maintenance on average past the 1 or 2 oil changes a year as RScottyL stated. In about a year of ownership myself I've only had 1 oil change and 1 tire replacement (sidewall damage), talk about cheap ownership! Plus my insurance actually dropped when I traded my '13 Ford Focus for my Charger. :) Bonus! Don't forget to post your test drive results and pictures when you buy! :D

Note: I'm old and have a clean driving record and good credit so the aforementioned insurance cost statement may or may not apply to your experience. :rocker:

I have an SXT Anniversary Edition. I want to echo what others said. Maintenance cost is low. Also, you can always do what I did and get a lifetime maximum care warranty.
