charger hood prop and dash sensor

When I get my daytona, I am wanting to install the hood shocks that are used on 05 magnums and 300C's.... anyone know if the fenders and hood still have the mounting position to install these?

also for anyone who has bought a charger... is there a small black sensor in the middle of the dash, up near the windsheild? I know what this sensor is on the magnum and 300C... just wanting to see if the charger has it as well... (can you say automatic headlights? )

Re: charger hood prop and dash sensor

ok found the articles in LX knowledgebase I was looking for on the head lights... just need to know if the sensor is there on the charger....

Free auto headlights

$50 switch change auto head lights

I will probably go with the swtich change as
1) factory look, and auto position marked
2) I can get the switch through a friend for about 20 bucks... not worth the time to grind away the nib... and risk damaging the switch just to buy one anyway...

I couldn't believe a 35K (as configured) car would still have a hood prop. Even my 2000 GP had hood shocks. Oh well.

That is a good point.. Also, what happen to the nifty under hood light???
Most of the time you have a trunk light but no hood light. I guess you are not suppose to open the hood at night..

What kind of mods need to be done to add the struts? Do any pieces need to be welded in, or is it just a matter of attaching? I would definitely like to add the hood struts, but am looking for a level of effort to get it done. Thanks for any info.

All you need are the struts. The mounting points are already on the car.

here is a link to the LXforums to a topic that iRock posted about added them to an 06 magnum, which is why I decided to see if the mounting points were also there on the charger... she said her husband installed them in about 5 min.... so looking at that time frame... it looks to be on a scale of 1-5 wrenches.... a 1.... :)

YUP the hood has the mounting studs but you will need to buy two mounting studs that screw into the holes in the body and then two hood struts .

Anyone know if the SRT8 has the prop or struts? I personally feel that Dodge should not have done this on ANY Charger, much less a 40k plus car. Regards! Mike

My guess is the Chargers get the props, regardless of which varient. I will most likely be doing what Daytona_RT is planning, purchasing two struts and parts and installing them myself.

Found out from my dealership that the shocks will run C$70 (for the pair). Also found out that all '06 models will have props instead. I'm wondering if its a safety issue.

Re: charger hood prop Part Numbers & Prices

Just came back from my dealer, I was checking on the price of the hood struts for the 05 Magnum.
Struts
#05065278-AD $22.50
#05065279-AD $22.50

Ball Stud
#6507889-AA $3.53 each

Delivery 3-5 days

Also found out my Daytona is Status "d", but no VIN yet. Maybe it will be built in August.

Kewl W37Y, D means the plant has picked the order up for build. However the plant is currently in shutdown for vacations and re-tooling. Going to have to wait until after the 17th before they gear back up. You should be getting a VIN soon!
