Hey guys, I recently purchased a 2018 Charger GT and had some questions about improving the exhaust tone and volume. I know the GT comes already equipped with a true dual exhaust system, but I'd like to make it sound a bit meaner and louder.

I've researched these forums a lot and have watched many videos showing different exhaust setups. The setup I'm wondering about is the solo performance mach xv, and also about the cyclone upgrade that can be special ordered.

How much louder would you guys say the mach xv is compared to the stock GT exhaust? I don't mind spending the money if it sounds noticeably louder (It sounds louder in videos but not overwhelmingly loud), and I like the tone I hear in videos of it. The cyclone seems like it would be too loud for my taste - I'm not looking for extremely loud, just something more noticeable than stock, and pretty loud when you floor it. Is the cyclone way louder than the mach xv?

In addition to just that exhaust system, I'm wondering if adding a CAI would add much sound at all. On its own or in conjunction with the solo exhaust setup. I'm happy to spend the money on these mods but not if they won't make a big difference in sound, or will be over-the-top loud.

Appreciate any replies, I'm still pretty new to this stuff.

Thanks!

Krautmaster enjoys running the Solo and may chime in. He also knows the mechanical physics on why the V6 sound like ass if shade tree exhaust mods are attempted.

I looked for these details a while back but could not find it. Requesting Krautmaster re-post?

Yea - I'd wait for @krautmaster 's feedback.

That being said, I do follow him for feedback on mods before I take the plunge.
Cyclone does sound a bit louder / more aggressive - personally, I'm happy with the original SOLO...nice and mellow when daily driving but opens up when I step on it.

CAI will change the exhaust tone a little bit (slightly deeper imo).

Are you in ON? Check out Zoro muffler - they have stores across the GTA.
I went to the one in Mississauga and they did a full install for me - they even had a nice choice of exhaust tips (if you decide to change yours out - recommended).

So, I have the Solo Mach XV on my car while the wife's Purple Rallye has the stock true dual exhaust which uses long thin center mufflers and the fat humped can resonators. The stocker is way too quiet for me but she likes it, so it stays. The Solo has a much deeper sound at idle and a low mellow tone during cruise, but is loud as f*** when you stomp on it- it sounds like a European race car not a fart can. The Mach XV is plenty loud when you want, so I see no need for the Cyclone muffler unless you want loud all the time (it would probably get annoying on a long trip).

You will have to play around with the length of the J pipes to adjust the sound to your liking, I have mine set to where the system is quietest at 75 mph cruise. We went on a mini vacation to AZ-UT-CO-then back to NM last week, driving about 2,000 miles and the exhaust never got tiring and was quite nice when blowing past slow driving morons (I'm pretty sure the sound scared a few of them).

As for intakes, stick with a CLOSED box system, since Mopar used a MAP sensor that measures density (you want to coolest air available- not hot under hood air you would get in an open filter system). Ford and Chebbie use a MAF sensor system that measures air flow so they can get away with an open box system. Improving the Intake also allows more out and it will change the tone of the exhaust (and make the engine run leaner, but the stock system is able to adjust to that).

Here is a link to a comparision between the two intake systems I use on my Chargers:

You posted once on why a V6 cannot be made to sound as a V8. I would like to read this again. Something do do with firing order or the like?

It has to do with the the way the cylinders fire in a rotation: V8 fires a cylinder every 45 degrees of rotation (8x45=360 - actually fires the same cylinder every 4th rotation) and the 90 degree angle between cylinder banks, while a 6 cylinder fires every 60 degrees of rotation (6x60=360) with the 60 degree angle between cylinder banks: result is the V8 fires two more times per rotation giving the pop-pop-pop or RRRAAAPPP sound, while the V6 just goes BLAAAAH.

Ferd has a new V8 with a different firing order (flat plane crankshaft) and it sounds completely different from the regular V8.

Thanks a lot Powerman. I am in ON and there is actually a Zoro Muffler in Welland very close to me. Will they be able to order in or just already have the Mach XV for me?

Thanks for the reply krautmaster. It sounds like the Mach XV will be perfectly suitable for what I'm looking for and sounds like its worth the money. Really appreciate your insight about CAIs...I was wondering if I should go for open or closed system - will definitely go closed system now if I decide to buy one. I will give that thread you linked a read.

Just remember to have the H pipe & muffler pipes welded together AFTER it is installed and everything is checked for clearance (it has a tight fit in some spots) because it WILL eventually sag where the clamps are and start banging against the cross brace - it makes the devils racket when that happens !

My buddy got a new front sub frame for his Pontic G8 installed last month so it is drivable again. Today we put on the Solo cat back system for it: It wasn't too hard doing it lying on the garage floor with the car up on jack stands - it is kind of weird the way the J pipes go toward the center of the car instead of outboard like in the Charger. It uses a single tiny (12" to 14") X pipe muffler up front then nothing but pipes the rest of the way. With that one little muffler we thought it would be obnoxious, but it is actually very mellow most of the time, except for when you stomp on the gas.

@krautmaster

Hey there! Iv seen you mention that you have the Solo Performance Mach XV.

I have a Charger GT and I am super undecided on the Mach XV or the Cyclone.

I love the deep sounding idle of the Cyclone. What concerns me is that it would be too loud even during normal driving. Would you happen to know how the Cyclone sounds in person?

How would you compare your Mach XV to the sound of a stock RT as far as Loudness goes while cruising/normal driving?

Thanks so much in advance for any input!
