So last year right before the track closed I was getting a strange sensation from the driveline. I was almost as if the rear carrier was twisting before the car moved, its hard to describe...At the same time I would hear a thump, thump right under my center console, but only under hard acceleration from a dead stop. Under any other situation I could not get the thumping sound or the weird lack of pull like I had on a dead stop.

Well I finally decided to track this thing down. With the new engine almost done I figured I better sort out this issue before the big horsepower hits...

Low and behold that center support bearing was destroyed, well not completely but tore up very good. I should have known when the car would have a squeak when I was in reverse, and this spring when I pulled out of the driveway it was squeaking.

Once under the car I grabbed the driveshaft and damn was it sloppy....I cant believe I made it from ND to Dallas and back with no issues.

The point of this is if you are having a weird thump in your driveline from a dead stop, occasional squealing which doesn't go away when applying your brakes but disappears when shifted in neutral.....this might be your issue.

I will update with pics once I do the swap, now I wonder how much this was affecting my 60' times and 1/4 times.....

I think Razorsedge sells a one piece driveshaft just because of the hanger bearing problem. If it's not them then I don't recall who does, but there is one available.
What have you done with your rear cradle? Is it still bushed or did you go solid. Mine is now securely anchored to the frame and the car feels much more planted and predictable.

So far no issues with the rear cradle, the bushings look great and no slop. Ive been wanting to do an upgrade, but I have been waiting on the clutches in the getrag to start failing. Once they do I will upgrade the clutch packs and do all new bushings from energy suspensions. I will have to look into the solids. A one piece driveshaft is a great idea, I will start searching!

Thanks for the idea!:beerchug:

I put solid motor mounts in this winter. Too harsh on the street even for me. I then engineered a semi solid mount on the drivers side with a factory mount on the right side. Much better in my opinion.

I looked at those mounts but went with 392 mounts instead as I was scared of how much vibration would transfer back into the cab. Im on the driveshaft shops site looking at their one piece shafts....damn it is tempting.....The idea of a bullet proof item like this is so tempting....I like bullet proof I already have the axles, so the shaft makes sense...:beerchug:

Wondering if maybe this might be might issue. Been noticing my car feels like there's some slack on the driveshaft. At times I give it gas and it feels like the driveshaft spins a second before the car actually moves. Did you have any of those symptoms with the drive shaft bearing issue?

The car did feel like it was slipping or better unresponsive when I first hit the gas..almost like it was delayed reaction before it would roll out under moderate to heavy acceleration .but the clunk only happens on initial acceleration

You have no idea!!! I'll measure it when I get home. It's rated to 1000hp, which is room for future growth. What blows me away is that it's 24 lbs lighter than the stock 2 piece

No real surprise in the weight, better lighter alloy machined to spec vs stock steel cranked out for the masses.

Like most stuff on these cars, cheaper means heavier.

It's also worth noting that the factory 2 piece shaft was designed to bend and fold in a crash where this one will be the ultimate torpedo in a high speed collision. You might want to consider adding a drive shaft safety yoke for this. If you wreck at high speed at the track (God forbid), you don't want this torpedo flailing around and taking your legs off...or worse, ending your life.

That's a very valid point! I have a safety loop currently and hoping I can reuse it or modify it. The shaft is 6'3" from flange to flange and is 4" wide. This would be a killer if it broke free!

Just got done installing this fine piece of work. And it fit like a glove, this was so easy to install. The removal sucked, but installation was so nice I wish all mods went this well. I will post up pictures in the morning. Will provide a review once I drive the car, but so far very happy!
