Any recommendations on a good, affordable, mechanic who understands our cars and can do a good job?

So far i've heard of a local midas that can do the brylcreem for around $80, which is actually pretty good. I'm located downtown houston for work, but live in spring so my range is pretty good.

Any ideas on how much a good ecutout install would run?

i got my brylcreem(you may be thinking of me...) for 80 bucks at a Meineke on longpoint just off of gessner.

as far as cutouts.. i dono if id have em do it there.

there are a lot of exhaust shops that do... well.. exhaust work. where as meinekes and such do.. everything.. and probably dont know much of cutouts.

they only did my brylcreem cuz i explained to them exactly how to do it when they had it on the lift and he quoted me after i showed him haha.

as far as a particular shop... im not sure. never done exhaust work cept the brylcreem and my headers on back, which i had done at a high end speed shop( Fastlane Performance out of 1960 near Jones Rd)

a place like that can almost surely do cutouts no problem and brlcreem too. but places like that have premium hourly rates ;/

btw, i did brylcreem on my lunch break. took em 30 mins... just fyi

good luck, ill keep an eye out or something for you tho.

removing the suitcase muffler and welding straight pipes into its place.

needed:
sawzall, welder, 2 pipes (all supplied by muffler shop)

to do:
make 4 cuts.
make 4 bends(2 per pipe)
make 4 welds.

enjoy slightly more aggressive exhaust for under 100 bucks.

name after the ad slogan "a dab will do ya" from early hair product "Brylcreem"

As for cutouts, I just found this (I'm planning to order some from DMH myself):

§ 547.604. MUFFLER REQUIRED. (a) A motor vehicle shall
be equipped with a muffler in good working condition that
continually operates to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
(b) A person may not use a muffler cutout, bypass, or
similar device on a motor vehicle.
But don't let that stop you.. :D :D :D
