Well, after posting on Thursday that my brakes were "Howling", I decided to change them out yesterday. Picked up the pads ( reybestos ceramics ) from Kragen, and got started. Planned to rotate tires and paint calipers while in there. Got the drivers side on stands, and dissasembled calipers, prepped them and painted them, and when I went to install the new hardware, the front pads were wrong. After 3 trips back to Kragen, and finally a trip to the dealer with the old pad, I discover I need the pad for the police edition... Has anyone heard of this before?? This pad weas longer than all of the others I saw for the Charger, even the SRT8's. Did I get a free bonus from Dodge?

Daytonas have the same brakes as RTs. Only cars with diff brakes are the Police Pkg and SRT8s of course.

Wait...

I thought that regular R/T's, R/T^2, Daytona's, and police package cars all use the same caliper.

But...

The R/T^2, Daytona, and police package use a HD brake pad.

SE and SXT RWD use a single piston front caliper with 12.6 inch vented rotor. the rear is a single piston solid disc rotor that measures 0.4 inches thickness

SXT AWD, R/T, R/T Daytona (road and track incl) all use a 2 piston caliper up front with a 13.6 x 1.1 rotor. the rear is a single piston 12.6 vented rotor with 0.87 inch thickness

Police Packages use the same 2 piston caliper up front with 13.6 x 1.1 vented rotor as above, but the rears rotors are 4mm thicker than the premium gimmicks (SXT AWD, R/T, R/T Daytona and the R/T w RT...) although the caliper is slightly larger according to the service manual to allow for the extra rotor thickness (see first picture in post linked below)

The SRT8 natually has the brembos and are 14.2 front rotors with a 4 piston caliper and a 13.8 rear rotor

i did a write up with some screen caps from the service manual that may help with part numbers and stuff if you need em.... http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71332 :D;)
