Ive looked all over the place for answers, and cant seem to find anything to help with it. Got a 2016 SXT, in the winter, when i use the defrost, it starts cold then it works but then it just clicks and makes that god awful noise(yea you know the one.) In the summer it doesn’t click with the A/C BUT passenger side doesn’t get cold air, stays hot. What actuator is the problem? Where are they located? Im gonna be doing it at home so as much help as possible is the best. Thanks guys!

There's 4 of them total, 2 under the steering column, and 2 behind the glove box. The parts themselves are fairly cheap, but they are a pain in the butt to do. Do a YouTube search, there are some videos on how to do it.

One of the passenger side ones went out in my 2012. I had to remove the glove box and lean in a really awkward way to see the screws. Only took about 30 minutes though...

As already mentioned there are four actuators. Two on driver side are blend-air door (temp control) and mode door (directs air flow to floor, defrost, dash vents). Two on passenger side are blend-air door (temp control) and recirculation door.
Plug a scanner into the car's OBD2 port and see if any codes have been logged. Use a scanner that can read all codes - not just Pxxxx powertrain codes. There are codes for each of the doors but the HVAC codes are Bxxxx body codes.

Yeah that "awkwardness" is why I didn't even bother. My back would have been destroyed and I'd have been unable to sleep for a week, lol.

I saw how they did the drivers side. Had young Tech lay on his back under steering column and go from there. I'd have gotten stuck.

Probably saved you $100 bucks though. I think the part is around $40 and I paid $140 for each one including labor and I've had 3 of 4 replaced so far.

The dealer will actually take the dash apart and then charge you you $600.

The most difficult part of the process for me was removing and re-installing the glove box door. I damn near broke the thing trying to get it back on. 😂

I think they could've done better with the design considering the gear is plastic if I remember correctly. Maybe the engineers hadn't considered that some of their customers live in areas where the temperature drops to 0, which is great for plastic...

The problem isn't as much the plastic gears as it is the revolutions the damn actuator is set to make, I have replaced the blend door actuator on the passenger side twice, second time I was WTH is going on so I checked the actuator before mounting it, the damn thing makes nearly 3 full revolutions, and at least that one only needs to make 1/4 of a turn!

No wonder they break, surprised as hell they last as long as they do!
