Hello everyone,

Just installed Bilstein B6 shocks with the stock springs and a set of new spring isolators, the previous shocks and isolators were worn out. now the car sits very high. but the ride quality is great.

I am thinking of lowering the ride height by replacing a set of Mopar lowering springs. as per Bilstein technical support. the shocks are made to be used with the stock springs only. it will damage the shocks if I lowered it.

But I read in some other forums that some people have done it with no issues but with 30mm drop only. Mopar spring provides almost an inch drop.

The question is how bad is it going to be? if anyone has done this setup please share your thoughts. any advice or recommendations are welcomed.

Curious - what made you go with the B6 instead of the B12 shocks?
.

Bilstein B6 - A non adjustable sport damper which is painted yellow. The B6 damper is designed for the motorist that wants a sporty ride without lowering the car or changing the original springs.

Bilstein B12 Sportline - Contains 4 x Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach Sportline lowering springs. This kit is non adjustable with typical lowering of upto 50mm

Bilstein B12 Pro-kit - Contains 4 x Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach Pro kit lowering springs. Typical lowering 30-40mm to give the perfect balance between looks and performance. This kit is non adjustable.

Not sure what you drive but something like this would've better suited your needs:

Another option would be to ditch this and go for an all in one Eibach kit like the pro system plus or sport system plus.

The reason made me choose the B6 over the B12 is the ride quality.

The B12 stiffness the car maybe 50% or more making it unpleasant for daily use and its mostly because of Eibach springs. Especially with the 20 inch rim size.

The B6 shocks is the perfect choice for a daily driven dodge charger with almost 15-20% stiffness and performance. Im very happy with the choice but would be happier if it was lower. I didnt plan to lower the car until now because the new shocks and spring isolators made it higher.

I was searching for the Mopar kit at the beginning but it wasnt available at that time and i heard it needs some modifications for the install.

Any idea if the Mopar kit uses the B6 or the B8 shocks?

I went with the B6 Bilsteins and I agree; to me, anyway, it's the perfect choice for a daily driven R/T.

But I personally would never lower anything. That's probably a regional thing. Never in my life have I ever been in a situation where I said, "Gee, I sure wish this car sat a little lower", but many, many times I've wished for a little more ground clearance. So when I bought the Mopar Suspension Upgrade Package (also marketed as the "Super Track Pack kit") I tried to get an answer for how much of a drop would result. The best answer I got was from Mopar's dealer tech line, where a rep told me that, "the drop will be as much as an inch, depending on what springs you've got now." When you think about it, that answer makes sense, because there are so many different springs that could potentially be in an LD Charger from the factory, depending on trim line and option packages.

I decided that I probably would be looking at something like .3"-.5" drop on my '14 R/T Blacktop, and that was too much for me, so I just installed the shocks and kept the stock springs.

In your case, I'm more than a little confused. If you're concerned about ride quality, I would think the last thing you would want to install is lowering springs. And 30mm is well over an inch. If I had to guess, I'd say that a 30mm drop is beyond what the B6 is designed to handle.

One way you could go is to install the Mopar Performance springs. You could buy a complete kit and sell the dampers, isolators and other goodies, or just buy the springs. Either way, you know that those springs are designed to work together with the Bilstein B6s and provide a lower stance.

If you're concerned that might not be enough of a drop for you or enough of an increase in ride stiffness, you could go with either one of the kits Powerman suggested, or put together your own combo of lowering springs and B12 Bilsteins. If you go that route, you should have no trouble selling your B6s, they're very popular and often in short supply.

The B12 kit I purchased for my 12 RT comes with B6 shocks (same part numbers as standalone B6 shocks). Bilstein does not make a B8 shock for our Chargers. You can install a ProKit without issues. Eibach even says their springs are compatible with stock shocks.

Thats probably what im going to do, install Mopar springs and call it a day. An inch lower is what im looking for.

Any idea if the Mopar lowering springs stage 1 (blue colored) are the same as the ones that come with Suspension upgrade kit (the black springs)?

Now thats a really good looking car you own. What rims your running?

I didnt know that the B12 kit comes with B6 shocks. Many people were saying its B8 shocks.

Hows your car drives with this setup, in performance wise and over bumps?

Thank you!

I remember seeing the general description about the B12 kit coming with B8 shocks but from my previous research that was more related to BMWs and other makes/models. The shocks in my kit had the same part number as the B6 shocks.
The car drives great, it is definitely stiff than stock but I don’t mind. I also have 35/22mm sway bars, front/rear shock tower braces, and solid end links.

Hey I was just wondering so I bought molars drop springs which drop it a inch but my parts guy said I could still use the stock shocks and he also said I could use dampened shocks but I wasn’t sure what to do or if it was worth buying dampening shocks or if I should just buy a new set of stock shocks I don’t know to many brands figured I’d come on here and see what you guys say I used to work at that dealer
