If it needs to pass legal inspection, then the MOPAR one is about it...I have it and it is very well made. Many on the forum like the Legmaker brand better.

The only ones to avoid are the ones with oiled filters (K&N)..they actually reduce performance.

I have a K&N on mine and it's great, plus K&N makes the Mopar ones anyway according to what I've read and have been told by Dodge mechanics. IHMO the Mopar ones are overpriced for what they are, he might be right about passing an inspection with a Mopar one though. Not looking to get into debates with people, but I don't think you can really go wrong with a lot of the CAI's that are out there, just a matter of what brand you want and how much you're willing to pay.

Put the Mopar on my 2013 V6 and love it.

Mopar one here too. Love it. Costs a lot more. Sounds and looks awesome. You won't get any real noticeable HP gains from any CAI. Don't be fooled by some of those companies that say you can expect 15 or more HP just by installing a CAI. It's all hype. You realistically can expect just a couple of HP, and in some cases, you may even lose some.

Pot stirring time:

Aem is k and n is aem, which is apparently now mopar?

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html

Snippet:

"A note from the author:
The reason I started this crusade was that I was seeing people spend a lot of money on aftermarket filters based on the word of a salesperson or based on the misleading, incomplete or outright deceiving information printed on boxes and in sales literature. Gentlemen and Ladies, marketing and the lure of profit is VERY POWERFUL! It is amazing how many people believe that better airflow = more power! Unless you have modifications out the wazoo, a more porous filter will just dirty your oil! Some will say, I have used aftermarket brand X for XXX # years with no problems. The PROBLEM is you spent a chunk of change on a product that not only DID NOT increase your horsepower, but also let in a lot of dirt while doing it! Now how much is a lot? ANY MORE THAN NECESSARY is TOO MUCH!"

By the way, I'm not on one or the other side of the argument, but I'm not sure if enough dust/dirt is accumulated over the lifetime of a street car to justify using the paper filter over the lifetime filter, however, oems do put the paper filters in for a reason.

It's not simply about improving flow to improve performance.

It is about reducing turbulence and getting the coolest outside air you can.

Restrictive air filters create turbulence and the OEM accordion tube adds to it. Where the OEM configuration draws air from is not ideal, it's a compromise that the factory chose to make to suit ANY condition the owner may regularly experience.

Improve airflow by changing to a less restrictive filter to get laminar (non-turbulent) air flow and use a smooth tube of the appropriate diameter and configuration (no sharp bends to keep effective flow diameter) to maintain it. Connect it positively to an outside air source and you will get an improvement over the stock configuration. It may not be much, but it will be better.

Get any of it wrong and you will reduce performance vs. stock. That's why some aftermarket CAIs actually reduce performance.

As far as being less effective at filtration, it's a minimal difference at best and generally just as efficient as OEM is unless you drive consistently in an extremely dusty environment. Most people don't, but the OEM had to make it work under ANY condition an owner may regularly use the vehicle in.

OEM is a compromise. Aftermarket is optimized for the user.

Think of it like a suit. OEM is off-the-rack. Aftermarket is tailored. You just have to be able to tell a good tailor from a bad one before you can decide if it's a better choice than off-the rack.

I've just installed the aFe magnum force stage 2 cai on my v6. Great sound between 5-7k rpm. Not much difference under that. Haven't had it long enough to notice mpg improvement. I doubt there has been any improvement in power. Easy install and looks and sounds great, which was well worth the $252 I paid on amazon.

Did you go with the dry (grey) filter?

Just out of curiosity, any specific reason you chose that?
Based decision off online reviews from various sites. Didn't find much about the dry filter. Based on comments in this thread, looks like i should have gone with the dry. :serious:

To each their own...was just interested in the deciding factor..as to whether it was just the color or info you read online regarding better air flow and such.

Anyways, thanks for your input - appreciate it!

No problem. Only had it on the car a few days so I'll report back with further details once I've had a good week or so of driving.

Lots of people on various sites have complained about the oiled filters fouling maf sensors and whatnot, but take it with a grain of salt. It's an online forum and sometimes it's easier to just point the finger without actually figuring out the issue.
