I got myself a Red R/T and I like it very much... you would too!!

I'd be happy to answer any questions that need actual study of the car.

If you have no questions, you can just be jealous 'til June!

1st Q) What is the insurance rating on the Charger R/T...

I don't know yet, my insurance company doesn't have the car in the system yet...

Well then, Jim, get the Magnum:) No GGT there, and you save maybe a grand, assuming SRT-8 pricing follows the formula of the equivelent Charger modle being $1K less than it's Magnum brethren.

Thanks, I expect the charger to be different becuase it's not a wagon... But the 4 door may still save some "points".

we were told that any car with epa under 16 mpg except suv and trucks will get a gas guzzler tax.the gto has a 1300 gas guzzler tax.the srt-8 chrysler ,charger, and mag have epa of 14 -19 . epa on the charger r/t is 17-25 . thats why the viper has a 3000 gas tax and the srt-10 viper truck doenst, and the epa on the viper truck is lower than the viper car. all trucks and suv are exempt.

"Those figures don't include the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration classifies as a truck, although no one on the street would."

"Chrysler is moving further down this road by also classifying the Dodge Magnum wagon (page 74) as a truck. The company is using the PT Cruiser gambit—the availability of a flat load floor—even though the Magnum achieves this by folding, rather than removing, its seats. By itself, this interpretation would suggest that all station wagons are really trucks."

Oddly enough, on the sticker, it is listed as a tax, look at the 2nd to last line, above the "Total Price" line. Thi s pic is courtesy of qzking, of the lxforums.

Okay, back to the original point of the thread. Can you take a look at the exhaust system and see if it is the same as the Magnum/300? I'm curious because I believe that several reviews mentioned that the stock RT had a better exhaust note than the Magnum.

Jim,

I know the Daytona model has a different exhaust. My question is some of the reviews mention that the stock Charger RT has a louder exhaust than the Magnum. Maybe they have selective memory and just want to believe the Charger RT is louder.

now granted... local dealer I went to will not let you test drive them... but I did get to start R/T I was sitting in, and reved the engine alittle.... and well... ummm... lets just say that putting a better exhaust will be the first thing on my list if the Daytona is that quiet.....

The exhausts sound the same, we have owned both the Magnum and now have a Charger. The exhaust systems are interchangeable, much like the 300c and the Magnum. Including header fitment.....

Thanks guys,

I think that maybe the reviewers were getting confused between an R/T and an R/T with the Performance Handling Group. Apparently, the PHG has a different exhaust system from a stock R/T. You would think that maybe it is the same exhaust as the Daytona, but the info from Dodge make a clear point that the "throaty note" exhaust is exclusive to the Daytona model. I guess we'll know more when someone actually get their hands on an R/T with the PHG.
