6.1 to 5.7 downgrade ?

Hypothetically speaking;

If your 6.1 crapped out, what's all involved to make a junkyard 5.7 work in its place?

Can the 6.1 computer just stay in place and only the block, heads, and intake change without the car realizing it now has a smaller Hemi?
Thanks in advance & Yes, I googled and searched here first

More than you want to deal with lol. It'll run like shit because the computer is expecting to use different parameters (displacement, intake type, head capability, injector capability, etc)that won't be on your junkyard 5.7. Also the 5.7 will most likely have MDS installed in it. Your stock exhaust won't match up to the 5.7 manifolds; you could use the stock 6.1 manifolds. You have to block EGR on both the head and intake, if you don't engine will run like even more shit (unless you try to use yoru 6.1 intake, then there's a whole other can of worms you're dealing with). There will be other mismatches between the engines; on top of all that, the car will be slower. Just get the right engine.

CW:
What happened to the 6.1? Can it be gone through and brought back to life? That would be the most painless option, and maybe a fun project if you are up for it. If not, Google is your friend. Try Car-part.com. See what is out there in the realm of a good, used 6.1.
