I have the lame 2.65 gears on my 2012 rt i have been considering a change to 3.92 but that is a little pricey for me right now but i just came across a 3.06 off a 06 srt8 for $244. If i were to buy it what else would i need if anything to make it work on my rt?

I also own a 2012 charger R/T I changed my rear end to a 2013 pull out from a srt, getrag 3.06 limited slip, I also had to change axels different spline, and had tune changed for 3.06.
Made a difference, now at 65mph 2000 rpm drone! Problem solved drive faster! As for difference hard to say as I changed engines (392 stroker, supercharged ) sure can lite them up now,
There are many on this forum that have swapped out the rear end, try searching forum for getrag swap!

Make sure its a limited slip differential, because there are some that are not. I have a 2.65 open diff. ('12 RT as well!), but I want to go with a wavetrac limited slip diff with richmond 3.23 gears (~$1600). According to the shop that will install them, that is basically all I will need because I can re-use my current axles and hubs...

Nothing make a car feel faster than a gear change.
Downsides: Top speed reduced and MPG loss.

Whats up tylerg... I have a 13 srt and I changed my rear end from 3.06 to 3.55 getrag. I recommend that if ur planning on changing ur rear end make sure u swap it out for a getrag.. if u plan on hwy driving I wud stay away from 3.92 or 3.73 lot of my buddies who made this move said they rather had gone with the 3.55. There is someone on this forum that does excellent work and they sell already put together getrags. Send me a pm for his info . But either way I still think changing then rear end was the best mod for the difference it made was huge. . Go for it!?

to tell you the truth 3. 55 would probably be perfect for me what is the price difference between the 3.55 and the 3.92 and also if I do this it'll probably be a couple months from now when I get my taxes back I'll also either have to find a shop in my area that can do it or take it to my Dodge dealership and see if they will do it

gears

only my 2cents and driving experience. i test drove an R/T max and then an R/t with the R/T package with 3.06 gears and what a big difference it made. i'm glad i waited a bit before buying because during the test drive in the max i was wondering when the damn thing would down shift. if you have the chance i would say go for it....:bigthumb:

I have an 11 Rt max. Kinda laggy at times but livable. Was thinking about this but have decided to wait and trade for a 2015 Rt Scat Pack.

The 3.23 had never crossed my mind that would probably be a great livable gear.
Back in the 60's-early 70's, plain Mopars came with 2.76 gears, performance models had 3.23's, and you could order 3.54, 3.92, 4.11's (Imperials and special order Police cars had 2.94's).

I have the 3.23's in my 68 Newport and they are perfect for city/highway driving, and a good deal quicker off the line than the 2.76.

Actually, the 3.55 gear is considered the perfect gear for the track since it keeps you at the top of the RPM range with the 5 speed NAG1 when crossing the traps in the 1/4 mile.

What is 'perfect' on the street is a matter of personal preference and driving habits.

Remember that rear gear ratio selection is also dependent on the tranny gear ratios to determine the final drive ratio in each gear across the speed range. What was used on vintage 3 speed trannies doesn't necessarily apply to the NAG1 and certainly won't on the new 8 speed tranny.
