I very recently bought a new 2015 Charger with the V6 Pentastar in it. At about 200 miles, I noticed a pretty audible tick coming from the engine compartment when I accelerate at lower speeds. It does it all the time, I think, but you can't hear it at highway speeds.

More recently, it started knocking as well. It usually does the knocking thing after I come off of the highway. The car currently has 3000 miles on it, approx.

I took it to the Dodge dealer I bought it from in Lebanon, TN. They told me the ticking is "normal" or "operating as designed." Before I take it to another dealer, I thought I'd get inputs here.

Please watch the YouTube video to see what I'm talking about, as far as the knocking. You can skip to the 1:20 mark if you want. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08N5U4y3dak

I am by no means an ASE Mechanic, but I can hear the knocking in your engine. I also have a '15 with the Pentastar (Rallye Edition). Mine has about 8600 miles on it (1 oil change so far). I do not have any knocking at all...the engine is running great. I assume you are talking about that very low pitched knock/rumbling as opposed to the louder clicking sound that the engine normally makes. I would take it for a second opinion...doesn't hurt to have a second look at it while its under warranty.

I have 55,000 miles on mine and it makes NO knocking or ticking noises...ever.

Your pressure might be too low, I'd change the oil to a good quality 5W-20 then monitor the oil pressure when fully warmed up to see what it is reading when you hear the sound (the pressure should be very high when cold... it will read in the 80's-90's, when warm 35-4o psi while cruising).

The Pentastar has a variable pressure pump that may be bad out of the box.

Sounds like a lifter isn't filling with oil. That is NOT normal and I'd stop driving it so you don't cause more damage. Go to a different dealer.

I don't see any TSB's that could be related to this. I would definitely recommend having a second dealership take a look at this. We stand behind our dealership service teams' diagnoses, but having a fresh set of eyes and ears take take a look at your vehicle could turn up a different result. If you would like assistance scheduling an appointment, please feel free to reach out to me!

Any further word on this? My 14 SE makes a similar noise, the low pitched one. Going on 39k and no signs of any issues. Oil pressure is where it should be 41 psi when warm and no consumption

It does chatter in the morning but I think that's normal. Be interesting to hear what you've found out. The noise to me is hard to describe. Maybe I'll upload a video to compare
