Worked this weekend updating my car. It had a standard am/fm/cd player.

I had gone through Crutchfield and of course they don't show any 6x9's for the front doors, so I went with a RF separates system (back in the day, RF was killing it in competitions) with 6" and a 1" dome. I didn't want to go with coaxials, and wanted to put something in the dash. My original thought was to bandpass the 6's, then put 3 1/2s in the dash as I've had a similar system in the past. I almost ordered the 3/5" for the dash, but thought I would try the 1" domes that came with the 6's first.

The challenging part was the fact that the component system has the crossover for the tweeters built into the 6" speaker, so I had to run speaker wire from the door to the dash.
I found I could remove the rubber boot and there is a slot for small speaker wire to pass through (see attached pic of door connector)

The driver side was a bit more challenging since you can barely see on the inside, let alone get to the wires because the parking brake is in the way. I took a solid 12ga wire, put a hook on the end and fished the wire through.

Rockford Fosgate speakers are generally tight/stiff so it takes some EQ to get much bass out of them, but I don't really care too much about that since I'm adding a sub, which was another reason I was fine putting in 6's on the front doors.

First listen, the clarity is very good. The tweeters bouncing off the front glass is much better than having them at your knees in the doors.

Oh, and I replaced the head unit with a Kenwood DDX6702S which came with a free backup camera which mounts over the license plate.

I mounted the hands free microphone in the left pillar hole where the search light was installed. I'll post a pic of that tomorrow.

Sub installed. Now just need to cover it.

Hole cut in rear deck cover so sound is not restricted. Thinking about doing the same over the 6x9's, just have to deal with the metal grid.

I measured 115db on this sub configuration.

For the amp mounting, I cut a 3/4" MDF board which is screwed to the chassis, then I put another piece the size of the amp on that board to fill the gap between the first board and the side panel insert.

I found the mic in the pillar did not work well. It picked up too much noise. I moved it to a temp location on the dash near the ignition switch. Thinking about moving it near the rear view mirror.

Next on the list is a port flare for the rear deck. The air moving through the port makes the rear deck vibrate. May also apply some sound mats to the rear deck to weigh it down.

Do you have a hole in your ceiling from the light panel? I have a hole just aft of the sunglasses holder I'm going to use for the mic.
