Who replaced their Beats Free Air sub in the rear deck?

Thought I came across a thread with pictures of someone doing it, but wasn't sure. Curious if anyone has done it, and if so, what did you replace it with and how good does it sound (sound deadened or no?).

I've got a Sundown SD3-10, enclosed and ready to go once my equipment comes in, but I'm left wondering if there is any path to bass response happiness by just dropping in an 8 or a 10 free air sub and giving it some power?

Hi,

I replaced the 8" in the rear deck with a Kicker CompD (40CWD84 8") dual 4 ohm Sub. I wired it to a 2ohm load.

It was a moderate help but then, I used an external amp to power it and that helped quite a bit. It's not going to be good enough by itself but, with an additional 12" in the trunk...it's not bad.

I did have to drill holes in the speaker to match the car speaker holes so, it's not a 'drop-in' fit. pic attached...

Thanks. Custom built from a local shop. 2k with also replacing the rear deck speakers.

Phase 2 will be replacing the rest of the speakers and another amp. Should have passed on the Beats option...
