Re: Old time muscle 1/4 mile times
The good times posted weren't just the result of super tuning, but often also have a highly experienced driver. On the tires used back then, getting a good launch was crucial to turning a good ET. About 20 years ago, I did a super tune on a '68 Road Runner (383 4V, Torqueflite automatic, 3.23/1 Sure Grip axle). Before I tuned it, I drove it, just for the sake of driving an almost "new" '68 RR (the car had only 18,000 miles, and was completely original). After the tune, it was like an altogether different car, felt like it had a 440 instead of a 383. Changing the tires made a big difference also, in traction and handling. Overall, I prefer our modern performance cars over traditional musclecars, although I am partial to the old styling.
