Hi folks,
New to the site. Actually came over from Chevelles.com. I had a 70 Challenger 340 in college so I always loved the Mopars. Now have a 70 SS396 w/ 455 hp. I found a 68 Charger R/T (XS29L8B184292) automatic, original motor (440 -375hp), original trans but needs rebuilt, orig. wheels and interior. Car has been sitting since summer 2001. The paint is bad and all quarter panels need replaced or fixed. I need a ball park figure of what you think its worth so I can wave some cash in front of the owner.
uummm! dude. this site is mostly about new chargers. if it needs a full restore plan on around $3000-$5000 tops to pay for it. hows the floor pans and trunk? is the roof around the rear window bondo'd up? if so a wouldnt touch it. then plan on around $60.000 to restore it to mint. try www.dodgeforums.com

I never seen anything that says its just for the new Dodge Chargers.
your right BUT theres more info for him over at dodge forums. and also pick up a copy of mopar muscle magazine and you can find NEW sheet metal for it threw vendor there. rear quarter panel are runing for around $700 per side just for the panels. new dash pads are around 275. its going to get costly to restore it fast. just the rear window molding are selling for 400.

Just thought it was Charger Forums too. Good to see ya. I was actually wondering to myself the other day why you don't see a few older Charger owners lurking around here. I'd love to own a 69 Charger one day if not a 69 Stingray. Love both cars but don't think the wife would go for both. But anyway from what you said and from my own browsing of old cars on ebay the 5-10 grand number doesn't sound too far off for something that needs a good bit of work, just depends on how much. Good luck on the Charger.

You're probably right about the more info thing but hey why not?

I would suggest that first verify that the sn on the motor actually matches the car, that is an extra plus. Also does it run? Is it stock or a previous hot rod?
Take a look at the factory options, you can get some info from the vin but there should be a build tagon the inner fender in the engine compartment this will give you the trim levels, factory gear, etc.
I would also take a real close look under neath to make sure that there is no major body rot that cant be repaired.
6k depending on the condition would not be too bad, if it is a matching#s car with some funky options then it will be worth more.
Good luck

In my opinion, this is not a technical site and the majority of people here are more interested in fuzzy dice and boomer speakers.
The percentage of people here that actually have true mechanical knowledge, I think, is about 3%.
This is not where true motor heads and grease monkeys hang out.
In my opinion, this forum is more for the everyday Joe.

If you don't like what I'm saying, my response can be re-calibrated. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Re-read my post and at the same time turn the key to the ACC position. My response has now been re-calibrated.
Join us over here at www.dodgecharger.com We're more geared to the classics although all Charger years are welcome.
IMHO in that condition if its #'s matching and a desireable color combo I'd say 10-12k in today's soft market. The auto trans is also hurting the resale value.
