Underbody plastic piece necessary?

I did like a lot of people I have read about on here have done....You know that plastic underbody piece? The one that covers the entire area below the motor? I tore mine up too...on a curb. Can I take it off for now? What will it hurt?

It won't hurt anything to have it off, but if it was me, I'd replace it.

under body cover

it's 2 parts and the front one is needed to help hold the nose of the car tight at the bottom. with out it the nose will be lose and flex around-the rear one under the oil pan you can run it with out it and you will see the engine temp drop a couple of degress. the covers are there to keep water and dirt off the bottom of the motor and to cut down wind drag on the highway. if you have a r/t they are cheap to replace. the rear one is about $16 and the front i around $38 and most dealers have them in stock because they get thore up all the time

I got my oil changed the other day at texaco and they told me they needed to take that piece off. I said it was cool so they went ahead and did what they had to do. Well later on in the week i hit about 100 mph on the interstate and the next exit i take i here something dragging every now and then. I pull over and its that damn black piece under the car. The dumbass didnt put it back on right. I havent yet got to see where they messed up, but it hasnt happened any more. I guess at just high speeds is when it messes with it.

Best,
In the last SRT Chat Session, the SRT Engineers said it was important for cooling purposes. I'd replace it. SOmebody asked if they could remove it to aid in cooling. Couldn't find the thread if someone could post it for this guy.

It's possible they didn't get the interlocking tabs set up properly in the front and the wind "got under" the belly pan and pulled it off. There's 4 10mm bolts holding it on so perhaps they didn't tighten a few of them down all the way or didn't replace all of them?

Cheers,

Plus, leaving it off makes it that much easier to suck water into the intake if you drive though a deepish puddle. You don't want to hydrolock your engine because of a $35 piece of plastic!

Inferno R/T+R&T, EVIC; 6-disk CD; Sirius; UConnect; Protect Gp; front and rear spoilers, Daytona grille and insert, R/T emblem and hidden trailer hitch.
.

There are 10 possibilities:
you either understand binary, or you don't.
