Question Stock Stereo swap Detailed instructions needed

I have searched your forum and can't find anything regarding this simple mod.

I am not at all experienced in car stereo installations but I have read others do this one without a hitch. Can anyone provide a link or pictures of how to remove a car stereo in a Charger R/T including what panels need to come off and how to remove them?

I am wanting to swap my stock single CD with a stock six disc MP3 CD changer without wasting money at an install shop. Three Dodge dealers have already said they would not do this for me and claim the stereos are "hardwired and impossible to swap" which I know is complete bull. I just bought this beast 4 days ago at a huge markdown ($24,000! due to advertised error at a competing dealer) and the only regret was it not having the stereo I wanted.

Re: Stock Stereo swap Detailed instructions needed

I just took out my 6 disk changer a few days ago. Lemme tell you, it was one of the easiest I have ever done.

Open up your ashtray, grab the bottom of the silver bezel (from your open ashtray) and gently pull it towards you. As the clips on the bottom free, start working your way up the sides and end pulling the top of the bezel off. There are about 6 or so clips that will pop out.

Don't pull the bezel to far out as there are quite a few wires plugged in to the back side of it. once you get the Bezel free, you can reach behind and remove the variuos wire plugs.

One plug on the bottom will need a flat head to remove. It has a red tab on the side of it. You must wedge the flathead under the red clip and slide it out (away from the plug). Once it slides out 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, you'll be able to pull the plug out.

Now once you remove all the plugs, the bezel is off, you will now need a phillips to remove the 4 screws holding the stereo in. Near each of the corners of the radio, you will see the screws. Remove those, then slide the stereo out a little. You now need to remove the pulg on the back side of the stereo as well as the antenna.

Once those are removed, you are now free to take remove the stereo!!!!!

Get your new one and put it in, in the opposite order of removing it!!

I hope this helps. I'm giving you these directions from memory, so I may have missed a step. If I did, It'll be something very simple and you should have no problem figureing it out!

Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions!!!!
