A BIG power build a friend and I are working on(Pictures..lots!!)

A friend of mine picked up a Mystichrome 04 cobra up for $16,000, car has 10/12/12
33,000 miles on it. The reason the guy sold it so cheap what he ran into some money issues and needed money, the down side is the motor is hurt. It has a built top end with a nice set of cams and a 2.3 whipple on top. The past owner said its a piston & rod with stock crank and stock block. So the plan is drop the motor out, send it to a machine shop for a complete check up, heads fixed, bottom end will most likey be a MMR block(4.6 or 5.0), Ross pistons and Carrillo rods and a new crank. The car made 756 on 24(?)lbs with the setup before, the blower will get a smaller pulley and max out the blower.

10/13/12
Some more pictures:

Lil ol 5.0 helping it start up today, all in all sounds healthy but not 100%

Little ol whipple

Some pretty flawless paint

Well the car is in and ready for tropical storm Sandy/teardown.

Only had about 1.5 hour tonight so we didn't get REAL far but we found the issue...

Passenger side head is trashed, valves look fine, but we will get the head off and see if the issue was contained just inside the head...

Intercooler, pulleys, belts, ect gone and working on the supercharger.

Bye Bye Whipple

Nice ports (All the valves look straight)

And this where it went bad for us

This then told us the cam(s) are shot

This was the first thing that fell out when we cracked the seal...

And here you go...

Chains are still together, ALOT ALOT of metal shavings, but we think the pistons/underside are fine....

The motor is being pulled, Tim Matherly will be doing the refresh. It'll be pulled apart, inspected, cranked checked, new seals, bearings, mill work...everything.

We just don't have the means to get the stuff done, tools or skill....

But we knew this and had planned to get it out there from the start.

Spent another 2 hours at it today, motor is out, found a few small issues elsewhere but nothing we are worried about.

Found a small leak in the rear, so we assume its just a bad tail shaft, no big worry. The car lost the IRS and went solid.

Stock headers still, American Racing 1 7/8th and a catless mid will go on when we put it back.

Motor out, we left and headed to grab food, it'll be out tonight.

If you're planning on 700+ HP again for this, I think I'd be replacing those front brakes, too. You'll need to stop it just as well as it goes!

That paint is gorgeous! How's the interior?

We are looking to make north of 800 with cams custom tailored to the blower, plus the refresh. The car made 750+rwhp before the motor popped. The interior is just as immaculate as the exterior, car was garage kept and only came out for a fun sunny day, you can catch a glimps of it on the shifter shot.

No plans for brakes at this point other then lines, rotors, pads...its a cobra so the brakes aren't horrible.

After a quick trip to Georgia, the motor is at MV Performace and should be done in about 4 weeks.
