1st run with a Camaro SS

On an private isolate road somewhere on the planet....

I was running about 75 and came up on this SS in all black. It looked nice without all the teenager stripes on it. We were in a long bend and every time I tried to pass he sped up. Finally at about 85 I punched it. I slowly pulled away.

I wondered if the guy was just scared of opening it up in a curve. A lot of guys can't judge high speed turns and lift when they still have plenty of grip. Many guys can't handle doing over 100 in a curve.

Later we got to a straight and he was itching to come get some. We were doing about 85 and we punched it and opened it up. By 120 I had about 2 car lengths on him and was opening up. I think his car must have been an automatic because I was expecting a loss or a dead even race. I believe the autos have slightly less top end and lower HP.

Fun time, no one else around, and a win.

I'm assuming the 2010-up Camaro?

street racing is stupid and is frown upon, you're endangering the welfare of people on THE OTHER SIDE of the street......lol....nice kill, on a manual you would lose, well I did at least when I race my buddy with a 6 speed manual. I never race a automatic before.

I just looked up the new camaro and the manual is more powerful:

SS is unbridled Camaro power with a 6.2L 426-horsepower V8 with manual transmission only or 400-horsepower V8 with automatic. Plus get Active Fuel Management (automatic transmission only)....

They do however basically run the same 1/4 mile. A tenth off I believe If I remember correctly.

Now I would like to see a 2011+ R/T run with an older LS1 Camaro... From looking at the stats, it would be a driver's race

I noticed that about the Camaro SS... so far all of them that I have raced both automatic and manual back off around 120mph. I think they are governed between 118-125mph.

I wonder what tires they're using? I've had my stang up to about 150 MPH with overdrive and backed off (the experts said it goes 153 MPH out of the box). She felt like she was about out of juice. Mine came from the factory with Goodyear ZR-Y tires, so she didn't have a naggy box making me slow down lol.

*On empty highway while I was on duty law enforcement.

I can tell you first hand, my neighbors kids has an 02 SS and if his wasn't modified, I'd beat him. But his IS modified and he only pulls on me by just a little. Off the line, I take him up to a certain point... 20-30mph up, he takes me and I just can't catch him.

His has a modified cam, long tube headers, tuned and a 6-speed, mine, all stock.
