Faster than the "regular" models but can't compete with the best.
Is forced induction, specifically turbocharging, the wave of the future? If so, why are we so far behind?
Big displacement, naturally aspirated engines in real heavy cars isn't really the performance of the future.
The new Pentastar Turbo motor will be at least as powerful as the 5.7
A twin turbo 5.7 could outpower the 6.4.
Opinions?

If the govt was still calculating the unemployment rate using the same criteria, the “official” rate today would be closer to 18%. In 2004, median income man in his 30s - $35,010. Adj. for inflation, 12 percent less than 1974.
I think they compete quite well with the best. The ZL1 is a one of type car, not a line of cars or brand just like the GT500 is a one of car not a line of cars or brand. The SRT is a brand of car now with more than one type of car. With the SRT brand or line it's not just purely about power, performance and handling it's about the total ride and experience which runs right up there and beats some of the so called bests. You get much more car than the SS Camaro and Mustang GT. I agree that maybe the SRT line could use a real pony car that is 470hp and 3600lbs, but Im not a big fan of putting a huffer on it just because other brands do. I think the new Barracuda is going to be more along the lines of a real pony car.

i also disagree with the *can't compete with the best* statement.
maybe if you don't include price or compare it to 2door/2passenger cars.
but what other 4door 4passenger car for <$50,000 can't it compete with?
that being said, i think the only improvements i would be interested in would be:
aluminum block.
supercharger.
maybe wider rear wheels/tires, although they would be just eye-candy. after going thru the SRT Track Experience last week, the current tires generated enough grip to make my head ache.

The real question is why would they do anything different? people are still buying what they're dishing out. I think maybe they're comfortable with their position/reputation with the american "fast cars". I just think they're missing the slap to the face that's coming via the fact that when that reputation changes not too soon from now they're gonna be on their faces and wondering what to do.
There's more to a car than speed. Sure you can have all of the speed in the world, but if your sitting on a rock, it's not going to be very nice. The best cars, in my opinion, are the ones that blend performance and luxury.
You must remember that dodge doesn't advertize the SRT brand like most others do...For a non ad brand thats living on just its rep....That says alot...

I genuinely hope SRT starts bringing some serious muscle to the line-up. I think whatever they bring with the new Barracuda and SRT Dart will likely tell the tale of their future intent.

They are losing on speed, handling, and even ride versus the GMs
The Camaro ZL1 outguns, outhandles, and has a better ride than the Challenger SRT8
The same goes for the Caddy CTS-V versus the Charger/300 SRT8
Aren't you tired of getting sand kicked in your face?
