need info on amps!

I'm looking to buy a Rockford Fosgate P1 12" sub. 250 watts rms 500 peak single 4 ohm. My question is, what would be an adequate powered amp for this sub? I have been away from this stuff for a while and not so sure anymore of what goes with what.

Is there a reason you are choosing the RF P1 sub?

More than enough for your Fosgate:

If you are not totally set on the RF then this would be a better sub:
Amazon Amazon

And then you can run this amp:

RF makes good products, however, this looks like the economy grade stuff.

For example, my 12" subs are 750RMS rated for 1500w each.

So my 2000w mono amp pushes 1500RMS out of it's channel (at 2ohm). I matched my subs draw (750RMS + 750RMS) with my amps output (1500RMS).

I don't need top of the line products to be happy, so basically I need to match the RMS of the sub with the RMS of the amp.

That's the safest route. As I'm sure you've experienced, there are a lot more "opinions" of what works than facts, in the audio world. Everything seems arguable. The rule that I've heard the most from true professionals is that it's better to have the greater RMS at the amp. Underpowering subs can cause them to burn up. So in your case, my suggestion would be to buy a mono amp (single channel) with a minmum of 250RMS, but you should be able to get away with 300-400RMS. Over powering can blow subs too, obviously, so as long as your settings are clear and not distorted, you should be fine.

I originally made this post cuz I was going to purchase a Rockford P1 subwoofer, well I finally got my sub, and it is a Rockford P2!! 400 watts RMS, 800 peak, dual 2 ohm. Need to get a box and amp now, but probably will in the spring. Going to ask a few local shops what would be a good choice for an amp!
