Purple Halos are illegal apparently... Ticket!

Alright ive had my halos for over a month, drive with them 24/7. Passed numerous cops, state troopers and sheriffs all over the DFW. (Drove from Rockwall to Dallas, then to Richardson, Plano, and Wylie, just today.)

Not once have I got pulled over till tonight! I was filling up and my halos were on still, the cop ( happened to be in the gas station as well), followed me about a couple miles then eventually pulled me over.

Not the first time ive been pulled over, (7th in the last 6th month. I was driving a dodge caliber before...)

His reason, " only amber, and red." Well for starters cant have red in the front, good job cop.. "he said they were strobing." They could but I wasnt strobing them. I didnt want to argue but I did let him know I installed them myself and I threw out some Texas Transportation Codes.. "he didnt want to argue." It was night, and ofcourse I had my headlights on, so you could barely even see the halos to begin with.

Well Officer Ward of Wylie PD, im definitely fighting this fighting this.

So are they really illegal? I wanna know before I go and make a fool of myself.

Yeah the minimum requirement is a white headlamp, as for color restriction in Texas; " red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light unless the equipment" is illegal

Not sure if you have a federal statute on top of your state statute about vehicle equipment like we do here in Canada. But up here, any lights must be DOT or SAE approved. If there are not, it is illegal regardless of the color.

You would have to do some research for your own jurisdiction but most state/province laws say that only amber or white is acceptable at the front and usually they have restrictions as to what color goes where.

I think you're going to have a hard time fighting it unless you find something that specifically says purple is okay. AFAIK only colors "legal" would be white or amber, and even that can be questionable due to the fact that you "modified" the factory headlights which is considered a safety feature and therefore the DOT rating no longer applies.
