Finally, an affordable solution to have OEM HID projectors!!!

So what I set out to do is get the OEM style HID projectors working for my 06 Charger for less than $300 bucks. They were only made from 08-10 and have slightly different wiring so that had to be addressed along with buying HID lights that are compatible with both my current 9006 HID kit and the OEM projectors. Here are all the supplies needed:

OEM style HID projectors from 1AAuto: $229 shipped
2 D2S HID bulbs: $15 shipped
2 D2S wiring harness socket adapters: $10 shipped

And the less important items used were:

Purchased from www.pcsconnectors.com:
2x 4 cavity Delphi 15487756 Metripack GT 150 female connector
4x Delphi 12191819 Metripack GT150 female terminal - 16/18 gauge

Purchased from www.autolumination.com/connectors.htm:

2x Socket extension assembly for low beam. 9" wire lead. Bulb: 9006 9006XS Male

And then from the local auto parts store:
Black silicone sealant
Wire grommets

Ok so now that you have all the needed supplies the first thing that you do is drill a hole in the bottom outside portion below the low beam bulb part of the housing. The hole needs to be large enough that the HID connectors can fit through (you can wire them through one at a time if needed).

Once the hole has been drilled go ahead and put the D2S wiring harness adapter into the low beam housing where the bulb goes with the connectors exiting the drilled hole. I went ahead and put the wire grommet around the hole at this point as well.

Now you need to connect the D2S bulb to the wiring harness and plug it in to the projector housing. Remove the metal clip in the headlight housing and fit the bulb in there with the harness attached properly. The bulb fits into the housing with the "white stick" pointing down and there will be a notch on top of the bulb that lines up with the one on the housing. They do not twist in like the 9006 bulbs, instead it's held in by the metal clip that came with the headlights. Just reinsert the metal clip with the indention out and it will fit pretty snug.

Now that you have the low beams all taken care of it's time to build the connector for the high beams. If you have an 08-10 model you can skip this step because your stock connector should work just fine. The 06-07 models have a 2 pin connector instead on the 4 pin.

EDIT: I have been told that the 08-10 model has 2 pin connectors just like the rest of us do. I can't confirm whether they have 2 pin connectors or 4 pin, you will have to look at your car, just relaying what I've been told.

So take the socket extension purchased from autolumination and crimp the female terminal to the end of the stripped wire. Once attached, insert the female terminal into the correct side of the 4 pin female connector. Make sure you get it down in there good so the connection will work properly.

Do the same for the other wire and you will have this:

Now you're only going to use the bottom two holes on the female connector since the low beams will be wired directly to your HID kit. To know which wire goes where, make sure the side of the connector with the clip is facing left, and use the very bottom hole for the negative wire and the hole above for the positive wire (as pictured above!). This applies to both sides because the clips face the same direction.

Now that you have that done go ahead and connect the 4 pin connectors together, it just snaps into place.

I didn't take a picture but at this point I went ahead and put some of the black silicone sealant between the wire grommet and where the HID connectors are coming out of the drilled hole. It was a tight fit already with the wires coming out, but it's just another precaution to make sure they are air tight.

Now for the easy part! Go ahead and use one of the various write-ups available to remove your front fascia. Once removed, there are three 8mm bolts holding the headlights on (top, outside, and bottom). Remove those and disconnect all of your old wiring. Then replace with the projectors and connect everything correctly. This should be pretty self explanatory because at this point all of the wires are just plug and play and can only connect one way.

Once everything is connected make sure you test the low and high beams to make sure all of the connections åare correct. Another trick I learned is if you clip one side of the wire that's on the turn signal bulb it will only come on as a turn signal, and will not be lit when the headlights are on. Since I want just the white HID light shining when I have them on I went ahead and did that.

Once you're sure everything is working properly, bolt it all back up and you're all set! Grab a beer and enjoy those new OEM style HID projectors for under $300! (Don't judge by the pics below, my digital camera sucks at picking up light! There's a nice cut off line and they don't look like a blur as they do in these pics. I'll add some more night pics with a different camera soon.)

Is the lens fasten with metal clamps? Nice job!

A lot better than my write up haha. I also flipped the clamps around. What's your cutoff like? Mine has a little light scatter, but I don't think that my bulbs are sitting as forward as they should be. I'm going to take the headlights out this week when I have some time to see if I can fix that issue.

Just a couple things:

1: I thought you would need ballasts to run HIDs. I don't see where you have any installed?

2: You will most likely need your Amber bulbs on to pass Safety and I/M, but I suppose that could vary from state to state.

I mentioned in the beginning that I was using them with my current HID kit. I used the ballasts I already had installed with my other headlights so that step was where I connected everything up.

And all we have is emissions testing in metro Atlanta. But even if you needed the amber bulbs it only takes a minute to swap in some stock ones.

Thanks Mike, you saved me some money! 1aauto just got some in and I was going to pull the trigger until I found your ebay link. I will post the new link below.

Edit: NVM, I think they are sold out already again. LOL.. that was quick. I sent an email asking when they would have some more though.

Yeah, i went to the AM autoparts website and have the notify me option. Checked my email today and said they had some in stock, went to the website and they were sold out. Really need to start checking my email when I wake up in the mornings again instead of waiting until I go on lunch break from school.

well, looking at the time stamps, it appears it wouldn't have mattered if I checked my email when i woke up. I got the email at 10AM, the Ebay auction was "updated" at 9:54. So they were sold out within 10 minutes. Guess there are a lot of people "watching" these now.

Well, if you go to the website, not Ebay, they have left and right assemblies sold separately for the same price as the pair sold together. All with free shipping. For $136 for a pair of headlights, and the only other website selling them wanting $240 for the pair, I don't think you will get the seller to lower his price any.

I had the aftermarket projectors with led's on my car before and I think these are better overall. The cutoff line is pretty crisp but I'm getting a little reflection from the chrome bezel in the housing around the projector but haven't really had time to adjust them yet. I'll be doing that this weekend and will try to get some pictures up.

A projector swap will be cake for these headlights. I was tempted to do it, but knowing me, if the output is less than stellar, i'll throw in a set of Morimoto H1's.

Baking headlights is a snap when you've done it so many times.
