Here's a new one: 06 SRT8 seat swap into 07 R/T - harnesses not the same!

Yesterday I picked up a set of SRT8 Charger seats from an '06 and when we went to plug the r/f seat in, we got quite a surprise ... the connectors were different.

I was left with quite a puzzled look on my face, pretty much copied by the seller ... lol

We've never heard of this being an issue before.

My car has both front seats power with heat, and so are the SRT8 seats.

After a couple of phone calls to some helpful people (thanks Chris and Rob), we ended up removing the driver's seat (the only old seat I had in the car, as I had removed the other seats the night before), and swapped the harness from my seat into the SRT8 seat, and it works great, and I love the freakin thing ... lol

Now, today I have to do the passenger seat. Will it be the same ? Just a harness swap ?

Fargo/Chris mentioned something about a sensor that the SRT8 seat has, that the R/T doesn't ? I forget exactly, since I was tired/puzzled/confused/frustrated at the time ... lol

I haven't had a chance to go get the SRT seat and try this ... I'll be going out soon to get it ...

But wondering if anybody's run into this problem before ...

Well, got it all done. Had to swap my R/T harness and the seat-track-position sensor, and voila! :)

Some pics of the seats installed :

And some pics of what had to be done to make them functional :) :

Swapping over the harness from the old R/T driver's seat to the new SRT8 driver's seat :

The 2 passenger side seats, as they look from underneath.
SRT8 seat on left with its extra module and track sensors,
and the extra plug for the buckle sensor (these "extra" parts didn't get re-used/plugged-in on my R/T) :

My old R/T seat :

This is the SRT8 seat's harness that needed to be replaced by the R/T harness
(starts at the seat switches and goes to the motors and the main connector) :

Another pic of the harness as it goes from the switches to the motors and ending in the main large connector :

Image

The 2 connectors : (SRT8 on left, R/T on right) ... I probably could've just swapped the connectors :banghead: ... lol

Image

The seat-track-position sensor that needs to be removed from the R/T seat-track and transferred to the SRT8 track :

Image

And the bracket that it will go into :

Image

And the sensor transferred into its new home, installed :

Image

And the end-result of the SRT8 seat track transformation :
(the seatbelt buckle plug I taped up onto the track frame so it doesn't dangle around under the seat, and the module I left unplugged.
Plugging the seat into my R/T caused no Airbag lights to stay on and all functions work :) )

Dan/FlyByU, thanks again for the awesome seats :)

Thanks ... I love the new seats in corners or braking ... it holds you in place so much better than the old shiny-leather R/T seats.

The 2-tone door panels don't bother me at all, so changing them would have to be a super-crazy deal on some new panels/trim pieces, to convert it to black, but then other parts (dash) won't match, so chance are that I won't do much else to the interior.

I need to re-focus on the other mods currently in progress, the coilovers/brakes/supercharger install :)

Looks good Gabe! :bigthumb:

I love the SRT seats too. Are you going to leave the SRT on the headrests or change them out? I'm not saying you shouldn't leave them (I'm not an upbadger freak) but just curious if you had something planned.

Thanks, definitely a fun/performance/comfort upgrade :)

The extra sensors I was told are weight sensors. Not used on R/T, but used on SRT8. So the SRT8 drivers/passengers get extra safety "nannies" ... didn't think that would be the case with safety stuff.

You adding this to the "how-to" thread?

I can tell that the SRT wiring harness has a lot of differences in the wiring harness. While I've been trying to solve this stalling mystery I have been studying the schematics very hard. There is like 300 pages devoted to wiring. Every page shows 2 or 3 exceptions to the standard wiring harness. 1 exception is always for Diesels sold in Europe (yeah, you can buy a turbo V6 Diesel, just not in AMERICA!!), the 2nd exception is always the SRT8. It is on every page. What makes even less sense is they have the same wires going to the same location but they changed the pin-out location in the connectors and/or the connector itself.

So for no rhyme or reason, Chrysler/Dodge purposely made changes to the wiring harness on the SRT8 even though both could have used the same wiring harness. Nearly every connector under the hood of the SRT is the same as an R/T. Same wires and same connectors, but they changed the location of the wires in the connectors.
Don't you just love it ? :)

I know you don't ... lol.

But transferring over my R/T harness made the seat work good enough for the R/T. My car won't be looking for that extra module and the buckle plug-in sensor, so my Airbag light is off.

The final test drive proved it :)

super nice upgrade gabe! glad u got it all fixed up!

Thanks Julio ... you already had this type of seats in your R&T so you know how I feel ... :)

Thanks man ... the R/F and the rear seats have supposedly been out of the car over a year, and the car is now officially a race car :)

Thanks Bryan.

And today is -4 degrees outside ... I'm actually contemplating taking the Focus today ... don't think I wanna wake up the Charger in this weather ... lol

I just received a pair of R & T seats for my R/T and the connectors are different. My R/T seats are heated and electronic, pretty much what the R & T seats are, so is it really as easy as just cutting and replacing the connectors?
I didn't do any cutting, I swapped the complete harness from one seat to the other

would Daytona bucket seats be able to be swapped into an 07 3.5 V6 Se charger? I would have to somehow power up the right seat, as my stock passenger seat is not power, it is manual. I would love to do a swap like yours, but only with Daytona seats if possible. Can someone chime in?

You can wire up power to just the seat motors pretty easily. I installed a set of '06 Charger seats into my '00 Dakota. Just have power and ground for the seat motors so they can be adjusted. When I get back from deployment I'm going to try and tackle getting the heating elements to work so I can have heated seats as well.

You're welcome.
I actually only had an airbag light when there was no passenger-front seat installed in the car, since the car wasn't seeing its sensor.
After the harness swap and seat re-install, I started the car and no airbag light.
The airbag system always does a self-test when the car is started, if it sees everything it expects, the light goes out.

The '08+ seats may have a different resistance than the older cars, you might just need to wire a resistor in line, not sure exactly, but the Mustang guys do that when they install a newer seat in an older car, and I think it all has to do with the side airbag impedance.

I repinned mine to the 06 plug (found some at the junkyard) so it mated properly with the car. Once I figured out the airbag sensor & power seat connections, everything else leftover was for the airbags in the seat. I taped them off out of the way since my original seat didn't have that (and I didn't want power anywhere near those lol).
