Exclamation Rear Differential leak!

I had my 12K oil change today. Before I handed the service manager the keys, I told him there is a small spot of oiil on the ground under the differential. He had the service tech check it out - the passenger side output shaft has a small leak. As of right now, my leak is not bad enough to cause concern, but they recomended I have it fixed at the next oil change.

The service manage mentioned in the last month they have had 5 mangums, 8 300's and 3 chargers with the EXACT same problem (same side and everthing). I would recomend everyone have theirs checked just to be safe.

Re: Rear Differential leak!

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I brought it in to the dealership and they said the rear was over filled with fluid and it caused the gasket to leak on the bottom of the differential. I wasn't buying this but as long as it was fixed I didn't care what they said caused it. I've never heard of that happening before on any car. But they changed the fluid and gasket, I've checked it a few times since it's been fixed and so far everything has been fine.

Re: Rear Differential leak!

Looked at mine when it was in for the first oil change about 2 weeks ago, and it was not leaking. Knock wood...

Re: Rear Differential leak!

5200 Miles, and I get a spot on the garage floor. It's a very lightly colored, thick oil leaking from the differential. Did the dealer offer any explanation, other then the diff being overfilled? Build date 8/05.

Re: Rear Differential leak!

Mine dripped a few times after I got back from a long trip. I had the dealership check it. No leaks. At this point I assume it's from a slight overfill at the factory. Excess comes out the top vent.

Since I have an 8/80 powertrain warranty (all internally lubricated parts) this should be covered for some time to come. My 3/36 is still in place for now anyway.

Others have reported pinion leaks as well.
