PCM engine "reflash" what does it really do??

I've seen a number of posts on the forums about reflashing the chargers PCM. Will this fix issues with the cars timing? a rough idle? malfunction chimes from the car for no apparent reason without any check engine light coming on? I get the annoying single chimes when going in reverse or shifting quickly between drive and reverse. Anyone have an idea what a dealer would charge for this. My chargers out of warranty. thanks in advance

If you do alot of quick shifting between drive and reverse you may want to fork up the dough for an extended warranty...

The computers obviously control so much with our cars, they are usually finding out what works better as far as programming so reflashing is generally a good thing.

Whne i brought my RT in for service the day i traded up for the BEE it was because my warranty was nearly up and i intermittently got a chug chug chug when turning the ignition and it wouldnt fire up - i figured it was mechanical, like a starter or alternator or something...they reflashed the pcm and tcm and called it problem fixed (as an example of how significant the pcms are)

Every car out there has hundreds of reflash tsb's. Its not a charger issue or problem anymore than it is with anything else.
The software just gets updated to make any small issues better or more livable to the customer. They fix many many issues and take about only 15 minutes to do. The manufacture knows what issues are out there with what cars so they do what they can to fix it with reflashes which are non obtrusive, easy for the tech, easy for the car , and the most convienant for the customer. Back 30 years ago you had to buy parts everytime you needed to fix something. Nowadays 15 min at the dealer with no money out of pocket for parts? i'd say thats a hell of a better deal
