Hi Guys ,,,Just took my 2011 Charger Police package in for a brake shimmy ,,has 11,500 mi and is 15 months old ...they said I need the rotors turned and the pads "cleaned" WTF I drive it like an old man ,,never once even a panic stop .use my brakes less in 15 months than a cop would in a 24 hour shift .....they want 3 hours (350$ ) to do this ...can anybody tell me if there was a TSB ( thought I read that they totally changed pads for 2012 /13 cuz they knew there was a problem ...Dodge Fleet goes on and on about what super brakes the Chargers have ..best of the big 3 ...yeah right

Take it out of the shop, put the car on jack stands and take the rotors off. Most shops (real shops...not pep boys) will cut your rotors for like $15 each. I've never heard of "cleaning" the pads, but you can always swap those out. Is it all 4 rotors, or just the fronts that are pulsating?

It's a BS price. You can buy brand new rotors for less than that!

Dodge seems to have problems with warping rotors. Even a moderate hard stop, try to roll the car forward a foot of so, and take your foot off the brake. Neutral or park so you don't keep the HOT pads against the rotor.

That Was my Dodge Dealership ,,wanted it fix under warranty ,,they said "no way jose" can not believe the rotors are so chewed up with 11K ..Think I should try to find a Ceramic pad ?? dealer says only police option still uses semi metalic (which he wants 113$ for )

I just had my brakes changed and rotors resurfaced (30k tuneup as well) at 28,500 miles on my 2011 R/T AWD this past Saturday. Initially they told me my rotors were warped; but they were able to resurface them. Cost me a small fortune at my local Dodge dealership.

The labour was the expensive part. I am definitely in the wrong line of work.

1. Front brakes breakdown (w/ resurfaced rotors):
Pad kit F 5003003: $82.35 (V1012558-AC)
Total labor and parts: $294.85
---
2. Rear brakes breakdown (w/ resurfaced rotors):
Pad kit R 5003005: $82.35 (V201560-AC)
Total labor and parts: $294.85
---
3. HEMI - Tune up breakdown:
16 x SPLZFR5C-11 Sparkplug 8036114: 8.55 e.a. total $136.80
Total labor and parts: $432.45
---
4. 23 Point checkup: $0.00
---
The service guy gave me a 10% discount (probably because I show up every 3 weeks to change out my oil, but hey, every little bit helps...).

Total labor: $708.15
Total parts: $300.64
Discount (10%): $-100.89
Tax: $18.79

Total Invoice: $926.69

And you figure they had my car from 8:00 am till 12:30 pm. That's over $150.00 an hour. Sadly - I make a fraction of that.
What dealer was that??? $150 an hour??? Seriously??? $432 parts/labor for plugs only??? It only takes an hour tops to do plugs on a HEMI. At $90 hour (the labor rate at the ex-Chrysler dealer I work at) it would be $226.80. For pads and machine rotors, we charge 2 hours labor. But we don't machine rotors very often. Our lathe isn't very good, and typically new replacement rotors are a reasonable price, so we would charge 1.2 hours plus parts. It ends up being about the same price as pads/machine.

We've been using Bendix Ceramic CQ Pads on AWD 300's/Chargers similar to yours. They cost around $30-40 per axle. That's right, a front or rear set costs $30-40. For rotors, we've been using Centric premium rotors. Around $60 per rotor. Shop around before giving all your money to those thieves at that dealer.

OMG how much was the 30 K tune up ....why does the 2011 use old copper plugs ( Chrysler just cheap?) 99% of cars today use 100K plat plugs ....the 2012's use them ...did they put in the same old plugs ?..or plats? And the brakes ,,well if I tear up rotors in 12K ,,and I drive like a old fart ,,cops must do brakes every week ....but Chrysler changed pads in 2012 ...so I'll try those when I do them ...I can live with a lil shimmy for awhile

I'm sure that this question has been asked somewhere on here ,,but can a 2011 Hemi with Copper plugs use 2012 Hemi plat plugs ??? so it can go 100,000 instead of 30,000 ...I can't see why not ...and thanks for the brake info ,,NOT gonna go with the factory semi metalic ..Ceramic should do fine ,,i'm very easy on brakes

I can understand front rotors for brake shimmy but I think it's highly unusual for them to also need to do the rears, especially pads and rotors all around at the same time at just 28k miles.

You can probably use platinum plugs in the 2012 but considering how easy it is to do the job yourself, and that copper plugs are just $3 each if you buy them yourself, using the copper plugs is typically not a big deal.

That's why I learned how to work on cars. :rocker: I have done almost all of my own maintenence and repairs on my cars that have been driven a combined 600K miles over the years. Brakes, oil changes, plug changes, timing belts, etc.

I just did the 30K on my Charger and installed double platimum plugs for a little longer life. I was surprised how time consuming it was to change 16 plugs. That can't be cheap at the dealer.

I am starting to feel a vibration on braking and I think the rotors are starting to warp a bit. I would likely be classified as a more aggressive braker. :beerchug:
