So I have kind of a special snowflake climate control issue.
I have the Road & Track package with auto dual-zone climate control.
This morning was a cool morning, about 50 outside. In the morning, I get out of the shower and I'm warm, and I want some cool air blowing on me in the car.
I have noticed, when the weather is cool outside, the climate control will NOT blow cool air, even if I put it in manual mode and turn it all the way down to LO. I cranked it all the way down and still it was blowing semi-warm air out of the vents.
This only happens in the spring and fall when the weather is in that "in-between" stage of moderate temperatures.
Yup, I have the same car, occasionally the same problem. I'm guessing it's sensing a humidity "problem" in your car (your sweaty, hot, out of the shower body) and trying to fix it for you. I turn the A/C on for a few minutes, turn it off and cool air comes out after that. The A/C dehumidifies the air.
I was having issues with my 13, it would only blow hot air. I had to take it to the dealer. There was something broken that would not move the dampers to all air to change from HOT to COLD. They had it all day, but that was ok, I worked all day.
I'm not sure that's the problem either. Later in the day after it warmed up, the cool air worked fine. This issue seems to only come up when the outside temps are around 50-60.
It's probably something wrong with the sensors, did you start the car when you got inside or did you use the Key Fob, apparently if you use the key fob it will automatically try to adjust to the outside temp.
For what it's worth, I had a similar problem on my 2013 R/T. There's apparently a motor operated diverter door that controls the temp of the air. I replaced this and it's been fine ever since. It was a quick diagnosis by the dealer, so I suspect that there must be an error code or possibly a TSB.
Different vehicle, but my company truck is a 2012 Chevrolet 1500 LT and I can't run the a/c when the outside temp is below 40 degrees or so. The a/c light will just flash. I work in the oil/gas industry and my truck sits (usually running) for long periods of time. Example: arrive on location 6:30am, outside temp 35 degrees. Truck stays running till say 11:00am. By 11am temp outside has risen to 65 degrees (I live in Louisiana, huge temp swings are normal). I get in truck to cool off but the outside temp display on my truck dash still shows 35 degrees. A/c will not kick on due to the truck still thinking its 35 degrees. Idk why they do this, I'm a fat kid and sometimes I want a/c even when its cold outside.
It depends on the vent selections as to whether you can select AC or not at those temps.
The AC wont run at 50°F with the new gen unless you choose the vent selections on which it is enabled. Check your manual for which selections enable the AC to operate.
Im so glad Im not the only one with this issue. I have the EXACT same thing in the EXACT same car. Ill leave the gym and Im hot. I want cool air. But even if I lower the climate control temp for cooler air its always just kinda warm. It does this if I remote start or start sitting in the car.
To fix Ive just been taking the auto control off and pushing the AC and Circulate button. If you dont push those 2 its still somewhat warm air.
Then going to climate on the screen and make sure its blowing out the vents and not the floor (which it likes to do for some reason) After all that its cold again and im happy. Like you said though its just during the "in-between" stages.
