Yes it would. From what I gathered the shitty uconnect programmers more than likely will not put an update out saying the 2016 and earlier models have hardware limitations. It really is just laziness. Once a new uconnect is put out there uconnect must layoff everyone until they decide on the next thing otherwise there would be updates. Here is the video For the 2017.
Probably still better than the boxes nav. If I was a manufacturer other than what was needed for the car I would make the system a dumb terminal. I would never have to worry about being behind the times. Your phone can be the issue instead of the car.
I had Android Auto in a rental Fusion on my last business trip, it was awesome with Google Maps. Way better than Uconnect. Plus, now that you can download offline areas in Gmaps, really they've eliminated any need for on-board NAV.
While we're slightly on the subject can someone explain what Set themes> Dodge 1-8 does? I selected all of them but dont seem to notice a change anywhere.
I have a 2017 Panasonic/Uconnect 8.4 in my 2015...everything works except for CarPlay and Nav...I've tried everything to get Uconnect to register me they won't!!! The dealership even updated my sales code to show that my car has a 8.4 ra4 and they still won't budge anyone know of a fix?
So your saying you bought the new updated 8.4 and it was not plug and play? The dealer said it would work but uconnect needs to activate or at least know what you have in the car?
I was interested in swapping out to a 2017, but now i'm interested in holding out to see if I buy a 2018 demon HU if it will come with all those dyno graphs and all the extra features the demon infotainment system seems to have.
Looks like they have made it so you can upgrade to 2015-16. I messaged them and they are looking for a solution for the 4th gen. They program the radio for the car as well.
This may help some people with older non 8" screens. Also this maybe why Nayda cannot get his to work.
I work for Chrysler as a technician and I have a 2016 charger sxt plus, I tried to swap out a 2017 sxt plus with carplay and it would not work. You will lose uconnect access and carplay will not work. All the basic functions will work but like I said carplay and uconnnect will no longer work.
At the end of the day, all I really want from a car company is a decent audio system with a reasonably high res display. I don't want them to supply me with SQUAT other than the ability to link whatever mobile device I have to it and use that mobile device as the "brains" of the system for Nav/phone/messaging/etc. Google and Apple are both more reliable about keeping their software up to date than any auto manufacturer. Leave the software to the pros and focus on building a quality vehicle.
I agree 100%. Should be somewhat of a dumb terminal. What pisses me off is I called dodge and uconnect and was told CarPlay would not be available to almost the 2018 models. So I ordered the 2016. 2 months later Daytona was announced and CarPlay was in those models. Total bullshit.
That's awesome and badass all wrapped up in a burrito. I like it, really do! However...
SEVENTEEN HUNDRED FOURTY NINE DOLLARS?!?!
No thanks, I'll keep my 2016 factory Nav and just deal with it never being updated and or find some where online where the maps update DVD is available for download ... for free. Not paying the outrageous price of $150 for that sh..... I'd rather save these monies and take more road trips.
Why not do the obvious and trade down from the 8.4AN to a 2017 none nav UAS radio ? This can do carplay and android auto, you would not need the FCA navigation anyway !
