Hey guys. I recently picked up a 2010 Dodge Charger, an ex police car (feels good to be back in a Dodge). I couldn't afford an R/T, so that was my option. Lol
Recently, my car has developed a vibration under load. All the way from as soon as I'm in the gas, and up to any speed. It's pretty prominent throughout the speeds I go. It goes away as soon as I'm off the gas, at any speed. I was trying to see if anyone had any suggestions as to what I should take a look at to take care of this issue. There are no CELs present, no pending codes, and no past codes.
I was hoping on the off chance that it was just bad plugs, but even after changing them (they were well overdue and the gap was quite off from spec) there is no change.
It's a little late posting this, and I may be missing some info, but any questions and suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks for your time!
I don't think it's the driveshaft. Only reason being is its only under load. Once I'm off the gas, its gone. However when stationary, there is no vibrations at any RPM. It also feels its originating in the front of the car, specifically the Bell housing area. Which leads me towards the torque converter. But I do have doubts as to why it is too.
The driveshaft is a two-piece rear propeller shaft design. Things to check, if you're experiencing vibration under load, include:
Center support bearing/bracket assembly
Single-Cardan u-joint at rear segment/bearing interface
Rubber couplers at transmission and rear axle flanges
Fore-mounted vibration damper (V6 Models)
.
Reason I ask is because my '05 300C had a vibration/shaking issue and it was the transmission. Felt like small railroad ties every time I was under throttle, or maybe a better description would be rumble strips. At first I thought it was drive shaft related. Took it in and they put an additive in the tranny. Worked for about a month or so, but then it came back again just as bad as before. Took it in and they actually went so far as to put an onboard computer in the car, like a little black box, and had me activate it whenever it acted up to get data to see what was going on. They sent the data to Chrysler but Chrysler didn't know what was wrong. So they did the same thing, (additive) it took care of it again, and I got rid of the car soon afterwards.
Okay, so here's a long past update. I was never able to throw it on a lift to take a look at it, but I ended up bringing it to the garage where the dealer/friend I bought it from runs his warranty through. The front rubber coupler on my driveshaft is shot. I've talked to dodge and the guy at parts told me that the front coupler is a different part than the rear coupler. I'm just curious because the front coupler is on backorder, and has been for a while. I haven't been able to drive the car in about 2 weeks now. I figured I'd go to parts tomorrow, try to get part numbers and see what I can do from there.
Dodge has told me that they are making the front rubber coupler, and that they are still back ordered. Anyone know if this part will work? I was also told that no one is really making aftermarket replacements. Or if you guys know of anything, send it my way. Thanks
