I currently work for Chrysler as an Electrical Engineer but will be starting at GM in two weeks. I have always been a Mopar guy and even more once I started working for Chrysler but I also believe in supporting the company that pays the bills. I love my SRT but GM will be paying the bills!
I'm thinking about a 2012 Camaro ZL1 in the spring. It looks to be one bad ride. At least 550hp!
How many of you would do the same in my situation?
Hey, I know what you mean! I feel compelled to buy my ACES IV and QuantumBlue to put in all my cars, but that is a different thing.....LOL!:biggrinjester:
Seriously, a ZL-1 is going to be a rocketship!!! Mopar is not making anything like it so why not.
Just don't get rid of the two beautiful rides you have now.
My question is why are you leaving Mother Mopar? Want to or have to?:rolleyes2:
that is true..they will cite them and tow them if repeat offenders! the wife works for GM and drives a Magnum rt.
She says she gets lots of thumbs up and compliments on it.
Yeeeaaaarrrrssss ago, when my uncle started working for GM, he drove a "Datsun". They did "ask" him to park far away from the building. Funny thing was, that end of the parking lot was closest to the road, so as you drove by the GM plant, the cars you saw most easily were all the imports!
My dad worked construction. He had to buy an american car because if he had to go to an american manufacturers plant they would key and ding up foreign cars.
as a mopar man i would keep my dodge but ya id still support the company i work for. and really there is no other way than a camaro or maybe the cts v wagon
I really doubt it after driving the Camaro SS. I *HATED* it. I honestly can't see how they sell ANY of them. If I wanted a cheap fast car, I would buy a Mustang 5.0. If I wanted a good looking and more comfortable fast car, I would but the Chally SRT8. The Camaro is a leader in nothing. The performance is below the Mustang, the interior is garbage, and the clutch is HORRIBLE. I wanted to like this car, and I have owned classic F-bodies, but I hated it.
I would get a Corvette or a CTS-V. The ZL-1 will just be a polished turd with a big engine. And I am one of the rare guys on these forums who has had a ride in a real ZL-1 Camaro (1969).
I pretty much agree. Unless they improve the interior, I would get the GT500 way before the Camaro. I'm really curious to see how heavy the ZL1 will be too.
If the Camaro is out selling the Mustang I'd be shocked. Who knows, maybe it is. Of course the Toyota Camry outsells all of them. So, just because it sells better, doesn't mean it is better. Clearly there are still a lot of folks who only buy one brand. Also there are folks who will buy the Camaro because they like the looks. But if you drive the Camaro and Mustang back to back it is OBVIOUS which is the vastly superior car.
According to this article, the Mustang had its worst sales year ever in 2010, and still beat Camaro sales. Also they note that sales of Mustangs are WAY up in 2011 with the new engines. So if the Camaro is beating these numbers I'd be shocked. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/26/2011-ford-mustang-sales-off-to-a-good-start/
Just because you work there doesn't mean you NEED to buy their products, that really makes no sense. Unless they are giving it to you for free, then why spend your money just because you work there.
Loyalty is usually a 1 way street when it comes to big corporations and Joe Worker...
Hell I work for Cisco and use other brands for my home network...
If I worked for Pepsi (I just threw up saying that), I would still be drinking Coke
only at your house and when you go out to eat. you can't drink coke if you've got a pepsi uniform on or you can be fired then and there. at least that's how it is where i live
If they do say something about getting a GM vehicle, tell them that you're waiting for the ZL1 or you'd need a really huge employee discount for either a Z07 or CTS-V.
If you don't work or live in the Metro Detroit auto industry you may not understand the loyalty to your employer. Not saying that you have to buy what you make but it is a little easier to tell if your not, by the car you drive to work. Your employer can't tell if you buy their networking equipment like a automaker can.
Fair enough, but what are they gonna do if you roll up in something other than their car, fire you? Not invite you to the Christmas party?
Just as an FYI, there was a NUMI (GM / Toyota) plant no more than 5min from my house and I drive by it everyday on the way to work, and there is plenty of other car makes in that lot. Since that plant shut down, Tesla has now taken over and I assure you, there ain't a bunch of Tesla cars in that lot.
No disrespect intended, but it seems like either you are trying to talk yourself into buying a GM or you are truly worried about the perception cast on you for driving a non gm car.
Either way, I'm sure you will do what you feel comfortable with.
You work for GM you buy a GM car. That's just how it is. Coke and Pepsi folks know the same thing. You want to work for them, you follow the convention. If you want to be a rebel and don't do it, you might as well find a new job because this one isn't for you.
So do they pull strings to give you the car dirt cheap. What if u don't have the money to just jump up and buy a new car? I'm just curious as to how that works.. I do know I love the outside of the new camaro but the inside looks cheap. Don't know about the new one though.
I'm not worried at all. There are plenty of non GM cars in the lot. A friend of mine works at the GM facilty that assembles the batteries for the volt and there is everykind of vehicle made in the parking lot. Alot of it has to do if it is an old plant or new plant. The older the plant the more oldschool the union is and the more loyal the employees.
I understand exactly what you are talking about. Im in a big auto town, we have4 chrysler plants and a gm plant here.
with the new employees coming in making 14 bucks i see lots of other makes and models in the lots at the chrysler plants, but the older 30 dollar an hour guys drive chrysler stuff...
for those of you that dont understand...when Daimler took over years ago, there was a brand new benz in the parking lot, when that guy came out at the end of his shift. the car was on its roof....
Buy what you build...if nothing else, pick up a cruze to drive to work, and keep the charger.

That would be the last day I ever worked for Dodge. That is among the most F-ed up things I have ever heard of. I would have gone to the media and then sued Dodge for harassment.
I work for Chrysler and know people coming to work for us with the same problem. No one that I know of has an issue of someone coming to work for us bringing their ride with. Heck, it's what you own. But once their, when you buy another car or truck, it should be your product. No formal rules about it. Just the right thing to do.
I'd be mostly worried about random keying and other similar abuse.
I know there's discrimination. I've had to do a few IT-related service calls at the minivan plant here in Windsor. They've always let me drive my Charger around the plant where my cow-orker in a Saab had to park a block away and walk. They were somewhat reluctant each time, but I'm sure the visibly modded and flashy Mopar sealed the deal. I'll tell you, that is a place where I get lots of stares and thumbs-up.
This is interesting. I have no problem with the 'next car you buy...' idea, because if I worked for GM they have a bunch of cool cars I would love to own. But what if I worked for Hundai... Suggesting that I buy what I build in that case doesn't sit well with me.
agreed...if they want u to buy their products they better give u every incentive to do so. this kind of thing transfers to dealers as well....Our local ford dealer drove a daytona charger and ford was not happy about it....good for me though as i bought it from her for $17000cdn for an 06' go mango charger with 31000 kms or a little over 19000 miles!
