Lower sales but also lower production, same for the 2009-2010 models of the 300C SRT. This was due in part to stepped-up production to meet the demand for the Challenger (about 20k units for 2009-2010 Challengers). I'll see if I can get the 2012 Charger numbers, I believe (know) they are much higher than 2009-2010.
The economy really tanking, bankruptcy, and an older design with little improvements would probably hae something to do with the declining sales. Not to mention that the base price increased over time as well (granted with more standard equipment).
The design is timeless and bad ass. that shouldnt have anything to do with it.
Competition perhaps? but the G8 died off...so what was left as direct competitor? Also prices were higher yes, but the ability to negotiate a good deal increased.
I got mine $13k under sticker, brand spanking new.
And that doesn't happen up here. Dealerships just don't haggle, especially on the R/Ts and SRTs, because there's so few of them due to our ridiculous fuel prices and insurance premiums.
But it sat on the lot for 9 months and then the 2011's started arriving.
This confirms what I've always suspected: SRT8's are more rare than Daytonas.
A total of 16,045 Daytonas were built in the US and Canada combined. (Source: wikipedia)
A total of 15,829 SRT8's were built. (I'm assuming grand total based on RS'es comment)
I bought a 2010 Charger SRT8 in black last year and as far as I'm concerned it looks like a million bucks and drives like a million bucks so whether today or in 40-50 years it'll be worth a million bucks to me. Love that car almost as much as I love my children...almost.
Also, was it a factory option to have the roof, spoiler, and back of the trunk lid blacked out? Got mine used, so was wondering if this was done by the prior owner or a factory option. Cant find it in the literature.
