First, I want to say that Brian at BND is a great guy and I've been using ACES IV in my 2015 Charger since new. I just bought a 2014 Charger and will most likely change the oil when I get it. Understand that I've spend my whole life in the car business and have always been a proponent of OEM parts, including oil filters. The Quantuum Blue oil and filter has made for interesting reading, but it's going to take me a bit to make that jump to non-OEM. I'd like to hear from you guys that have had actual experience running QB oil for a while.
Back when I first started using ACES and QB I was skeptical. Ran it for about 10k miles and had a cam installed. My buddy doing the install called me and asked if my mileage was wrong because my motor was way too immaculate upon disassembly. I've continued using it ever since along with gear lube and the power steering catalyst as well.
You'll notice that the folks that use it love it. The folks that bash it never have.
Just did my second oil change of QB, and I'm on my second quart of ACES IV for both my '12 R/T Charger and my wife's '14 300C. Luckily, I live really close to Brian, so it makes it easy. He's a great guy and easy to do business with. I actually just sent off my oil sample to ALS Tribology to get the results, but based on how both cars run... I love it! Both cars run smoothly and quietly. Gotta get to the rear diff fluid and steering fluid next! I have seen Brian's SRT Charger, and both of his vans. They are all running so well... even the 06 van with a bazillion miles. The stuff works.
ACES IV alone is worth it. My MPG is up 2-3mpg per tank, and they both run so well. The Charger is modified and can definitely feel the difference without Aces IV. Totally different car...
I would definitely suggest to those that are skeptical to get a quart of ACES IV to try it. You'll benefit more from both QB and ACES, but if you're skeptical, try it first.
Thanks for the confidence in our materials! The ACES IV does make a big difference in both performance and longevity. It is one of the reasons my 05 Grand Caravan has over 241,000 miles on it. You have heard it run and it is quiet as a church mouse and gets 26 mpg on the highway with the AC on. Change the oil every 12,000 miles with filter.
I met Brian at an Akron Horse Power Dyno Day in the fall of 2006. He was explaining his products to those who came in for the dyno time. I am a PhD Analytical Chemist and one thing that impressed me was his demonstration of how Aces IV burned easily, but controlled, and left a light lubricant on the bottom of an inverted (and empty) soda can. The conclusion was that the lubricant residue would be IN the combustion chamber and ensure the top side of the first ring always had some protection against the cylinder wall.
I decided based on that demonstration/observation that his products deserved at least a try out. I began using Aces IV and soon his Quantum Blue oil in that 2006 300C Heritage Edition when it had and estimated 8000 miles. Almost immediately it virtually silenced the "hemi tick." When I ordered the QB engine oil I began with 5k miles intervals and had the used oil analyzed at each change. Eventually I have landed on a 10-11k interval, but have gone as far as 13k. When I also submitted a sample of virgin QB oil, this is what Blackstone Labs had to say...
"Wow! Look at the additive package of this oil. Phosphorus is easily the dominant additive and is an anti-wear additive along with zinc. Calcium and magnesium are both detergent-dispersent additives. No moisture was found and the insolubles are from normal oil oxidation and aren't a problem. The TBN starts out fairly strong at 9.1. We consider 1.0 too low for extended use. We see no reason that this oil shouldn't work well in your engine(s)."
I soon began using the oil for both 300Cs we owned, and when I traded the 2005 300C (27K miles) for the 2007 Magnum SRT8, I converted The MSRT8 to QB Oils as soon as the break-in period was over. The same for the 2015 300C we just purchased in July. Eventually I have converted the coolant, transmission and rear differential fluids to Quantum Blue fluids and the cars have have been a dream to own.
When we purchased the 2015, we gave our 2006 to our son and his family at 121k+ miles to replace a rotting 1997 Honda Civic. The oil analyses continue to indicate extremely low metal wear, and I am very confident the car should reach the 200k and go beyond if our son keeps up with the fluids I have recommended to him.
Subsequently I have just converted the engine oil and the rear differential fluid of the 2015 to QB because we are about to take a two week road trip through New England for fall foliage. By spring I will flush the transmission and convert that fluid. By the end of next year, I probably will convert the coolant.
Unlike Brian an others (some above), I won't vouch with certainty that I achieve any measurable gains of HP, torque or fuel economy using QB fluids, but like them I can confidently state that every analytical indication is that my cars operate with minimal wear, and Quantum Blue certainly hasn't hurt any aspect of performance in the least.
Thank you for the nice write up here! We have known each other for a long time. Can't believe it has been almost 10 years! WOW!
By the way, since 2006, you have purchased from us 28 times or 3.11 times per year for one of your vehicles at a time anyway.
When you supercharged the Magnum, we had to do a different blend for you just to kick it up a little for more protection. The 6.1 can handle more boost than the 6.4L!
Anyway, thank you for being such a good customer and a greater friend!
I've posted my oil analysis results both with and without QB. I think the evidence speaks for itself and I currently have a nice experiment going on with switching out QB and seeing how wear changes. More to come on that story.
I changed over to QB oil at 43,000 miles and began using the QB oil filter when it became available. Get this... I now have over 216,000 miles on the 5.7 with 14 oil changes which equates to an oil/filer change interval of just over 12,000 miles over the last 170,000 miles driven. Due to being extremely busy, I have pushed an oil change interval to over 14,000 miles more than once, but I just don't worry about it... I also have a catch can which collects vaporized oil at a much slower rate than pre QB oil. Bottom line... I trust this oil/filter combo to protect the rolling assembly and have used ACES IV forever to protect the top side of the engine. I also like the fact that ACES keeps the Hemi tick at bay and the engine idles much smoother. But as we all know words are just words, so I have attached a pdf of the spread sheet I use to track of what needs to happen at what time. I have also attached the oil sample analysis which gets performed every time an oil change happens. I work in the medical field and we test your blood to see how your body is functioning, so I figure why not get the engine's oil tested to see how it is doing... Just saying it just make sense. So, even with 216,000 miles and climbing, I still enjoy driving this car and still modifying here and there to keep her fresh and fun...! Happy driving...! Jed-
You are the one that has the most on QuantumBlue from this forum and outside my 2005 Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L which has 240,300 miles on 20 oil changes (12,000 miles per change w/ QB oil filters) you are first.
The documentation you have put here is stellar along with the oil analysis. Thank you for chiming in on the discussion. 181,122 miles and 12,937.25 miles per oil change. Highest was 14,899 miles on one change for your 5.7L MDS Hemi V8.:rocker:
So now yall are getting me interested in this stuff...so I can go 12,000 miles on one oil change (oil life computer be damned)? AND keep my motor in tip-top shape? Might be worth it.
I'm familiar with the whole "Use XYZ instead of OEM because XYZ does ABC"...I've run diesel oil in my old Jeep for years for the zinc content & it works to reduce tapping and ticking noises...so I'm down.
My one hesitation is that this is gonna be a DD with the occasional stomp on the gas...don't foresee going to the track so I hesitate to pay a premium over some good full synthetic oil from castrol or OEM penzoil...

Yes. Most engines that are running QuantumBlue are averaging almost 13,000 miles between. Some at low as 10k and others as high as 18,230 miles on one change. More than cost effective here!

As time has gone on, the amount of zinc and type of zinc has been watered down. ZDP has replaced ZnDDP. Much less effective. Also less magnesium for detergency and acidic phosphorous. QuantumBlue blends ZnDDP, Neutral Phosphorous....(4,000 to 6,000 ppm vs 600 to 800 ppm) and we add 20 times the amount of detergent and dispersant into the oils to keep engines spotless.....like InvictuSRT8 stated from his engine builder! Our lubricants will keep engines from coming apart from a wear and scuff, rust and detergency aspect.
My one hesitation is that this is gonna be a DD with the occasional stomp on the gas...don't foresee going to the track so I hesitate to pay a premium over some good full synthetic oil from castrol or OEM penzoil...
You can stomp on it as much as you want and still it will give a great account of itself. Not a worry about wearing it out soon. You want something that is designed and manufactured for you vs. just off the shelf ambivalence. Our lubricants are like cutting your toenail off with a chainsaw or duck hunting with a bazooka! Same goes for our filters too! We give every 3/4-16 thread pitch oil filter and 22mm 1.5mm thread pitch filters quality better than an MO-041 filter (SRT type).
It is $12.76 per quart in 1 gallon increments so $51.04 x 2 = $102.08 and includes a QuantumBlue Ultra HP Oil Filter too. So $89.32 for 7 quart change and 1 quart left over for top off during the drain interval. So about 30% more initially for 4 to 5 times longer use.....ultimately cheaper and better protection that is proven not on the label but by oil analysis and over 11,000 customers!:rocker:
BTW, a different from my normal Service Tech changed the oil on the 2015. When I saw the bill I say "You charged me for a filter? There was one in the box with the oil, like there always is." The Tech didn't see it. Although he sampled the old oil, he never looked under the peanuts for the filter I guess. I showed the service writer (my normal guy) that, in fact, it was in the box with the two gallons of 7.5W23 oil. He offered to put the car back in the shop and change it out, but I declined. So now I've got the standard Chrysler shop filter in for this interval, and your filter will be ready the next time... and hopefully another shop tech knows I pay attention to the details!
Yea, sorry to hear that. In the world of real people make mistakes. Although the QuantumBlue Ultra HP Oil Filter is better than the MO-899 and the MO-041 filters, you would rather have a supercalifragilistic oil like QB stopping the wear during the interval than a supercalifragilistic oil filter filtering the wear that the oil isn't stopping. So in this case it is the lesser of 2 evils for sure. Since the QuantumBlue stops virtually all the wear during the interval, you don't have to worry about the Mopar filter filling up with wear particles so you will be able to go the full 10k to 12k on the 2015. Definitely don't have to worry about the filter in full bypass this way.
Remind me on the next change and we will not include the filter so you don't end up with a collection! LOL.
Thanks for the update. By the way, Crysalis just did a 12,000 mile change with QB on his 2012 Charger R/T VVT Eagle Hemi and got stellar results. :rocker:
I'm gonna have to chime in here and give my two cents on this topic. I have ran QB lubes in everything on my '07 Charger R/T along with Aces IV and never had anything but great results. Car ran smoother and better than before i started running it. As a matter of fact when I traded in my R/T for a 2010 SRT Challenger, his fluids were the first mod that I did. Again, same great results. If your on the fence, I would say give Aces IV a try, you'll notice the difference. When you call, make sure to have some free time, Brian is a wonderful guy and does like to talk and educate.
Thank you for the update. We always work hard at designing the exact materials for each car so that the experience, performance and protection is optimum each and every time. More and more people are switching over to our QuantumBlue products as well as ACES IV. As one new customer said to me....my face hurts.....I can't stop smiling! LOL.:beerchug:
Soon as you get the SRT, give us a call and we can help you start it out right....suggesting some things to help it run as long as you want it too with tons of power and protection! :beerchug:
I have been running all of BND's lubricants, coolant and ACES IV since 08. Car is loving the good stuff! Soon enough the stroker will be running it as welll
Thank you for the support PlumCrazyDaytona! Hard to believe it has been since 2008!! You have purchased from us 15 times since then or 2.14 times per year.
Looking forward to hearing how the new engine runs with the QB and the ACES IV!:beerchug:
Been using BnD fluids since 2012 and the products work, hands down! I'm not as active on these forums as before, but it's good to know that there are other BnD users that show that Brian's products work!
