How to add EVIC for your SE/SXT/RT Chargers

After loads of hard work and a few cuts on hands, I finally got EVIC cluster working in my 08 Charger SXT with full steering wheel controls.

YES IT IS POSSIBLE AND YES IT CAN BE DONE!

Here are the stuff you will need:
1. EVIC cluster of the same year of your car, or newer. For example, 06~07 can use 06~07 cluster. 08~10 can use 08~10 cluster. Challenger clusters work perfectly in our Chargers.
2. Steering Wheel Controls. They can be found on eBay.
3. New steering wheel harness that connects the switches
4. overhead console with homelink module(for compass to work)
5. Depends on conditions, you might need a new Steering Control Module(if your car has no ESP)

You will need to find one to program your TIPM to enable the features. And you need one to match up the mileage on your cluster. After Hour Mopar Performance can do both. Jon has some amazing skills.

Well here are the results:

Just added homelink overhead console. Now the compass functions perfectly. My BIG project is finally done!

Great project props to you! Always wanted the more advanced speedo. As well as that 0-60 timer such a cool feature. And steering wheel controls. It's the little things that can make your driving experience so much better. Also like the carbon fiber on the steering wheel nice touch

And since our thermometers run at a lower temperature would be nice to always see that thing way to the left haha

Been having fun after the upgrade. Now it feels like

A WHOLE NEW CAR

All the performance pages functions perfectly, 0-60, quarter miles, G-force and etc. Being able to get real time MPG rating rocks as well. It just completely changed the driving experience!! Honestly, I am falling in love with driving my car again. Oh the passion and excitement.

My car also has the factory alarm enabled. So many new features to play with, I am like a kid in a candy store right now.:biggrinjester:

As for your concerns about the engine temp gauge. The digital meter in the EVIC shows it is around 194F. The analog gauge shows pass the 170F mark.

I am making the harness to install the homelink module to get the compass working later.

#10 ·
Still in the process of installing the homelink. From the looks of it this requires quite some soldering and work. I will report back when everything is done.

#11 ·
Thanks for the write up.

#12 ·
Homelink installed. The wiring requires taking off A-pillar. Be careful since the stud-ball mount can be broken easily. The homelink has 6 wires, however only pin1 to pin 4 are needed for homelink to function.

Now I have functional homelink module with compass. My project of adding full EVIC to my V6 has finally been accomplished. Feels damn good.

Please Search the Web for more info on doing this mod on 06/07 models as it is different than what has been discussed here.

I spent 150 on cluster, 50 on overhead console. Programing cost varies on how many features you want. I did the installation myself. I already had steering wheel controls so you may need to purchase that as well.

Hi
Awesome work! congrats!

When you say 'You will need to find one to program your TIPM to enable the features. And you need one to match up the mileage on your cluster' you mean no official customer service will do that?

how hard would this mod be for someone whos not very tec savey?

I am bummed...I have a 2008 Dodge Charger R/T AWD and EVIC I think should have been on all R/T models. Every single R/T i've seen basically has EVIC and Steering Controls. Never really worked on cards before, but I am tech savy with computers. I'd like to attempt this, but not sure if I'll ever have the guts to chance breaking anything.

These cars are basically computers on wheels. If you are good at programming and is capable of cracking Chrysler's CANBus encryption system you should have no problem.

I always wanted to venture into hacking my OWN car's TIPM and alter parameters. You can follow on this guy's work. It is definitely doable.

After loads of hard work and a few cuts on hands, I finally got EVIC cluster working in my 08 Charger SXT with full steering wheel controls.

YES IT IS POSSIBLE AND YES IT CAN BE DONE!

I want to swap out the cluster on a '08 Magnum. So i need to look for 08-10 and does that apply to the challengers clusters as well? Also how do you get the different startup graphics like the superbee?

#30 ·
I just bought a chrysler 300 base now I am planning swapping in a 6.4L later in the future but for now I just bought a steering wheel with airbags and wires are ready to go in, can I buy a srt8 cluster and plug every wire in and make it work only reason I say this is because my mother also bought a base 300 2.7L she doesn't know anything about cars she just bought a chrysler 300c cluster plug it in and worked like a charm really surprised me, but she has no steering wheel controls will it work if I just plug everything in?

I have been working on this here and there, and I have an RT gauge cluster installed, home-link working along with compass. All these mods were pretty easy.

I recently got hold of a TIPM from a '10 Charger RT. My car is a 2010 SXT. As I understand the directions at the top of the thread, I need to use the RT TIPM to get my SXT TIPM to open up the EVIC info. Does that mean, disconnect the battery, unplug the TIPM, plug in the RT TIPM, put battery cable back on, start car, shut down car and put the old TIPM back in? The reason I ask is I don't want to brick my SXT. Thanks for any info you guys may have.

Well, I am here to say that my install is complete. I now have the performance pages in the cluster. All it took was a cluster, wheel switches (I just got a whole column from an SRT). I had been using AppCar software trying to get things to work, but I had no luck. After talking with NYInstaller, he turned me on to AlphaODB. With this software and a few minutes trying to figure it out, I got all the pages to display correctly. Next thing to do is get the telematics working so I can BT my phone to the rear view mirror.

Hi !! What is AlphaOBD ? A programmer or a software you run on a laptop ?
Thanks , Marc.
Ok I googled it and found a link . Got my CAN to USB interface ordered.

Who is " After Hour Mopar Performance can do both. Jon " ? Is a member of this forum ?
I sure love what you did !! I just got a 2008 SRT8 Cluster for my 2005 Magnum , I fitted a RHB 430N Mygig radio without a Lockpick adapter. Did need to change amplifier because it would not recognize the radio and play. Since I had a 2009 300 amp I just quickly swapped it and it worked.

#35 ·
I have just got Appcar Which I have been able to change daytime running light from high beam to low bean, keep fog lamp on when on high beam. Enable the HFM (hands free module) in the FCM/TIPM , with the RHB 430N Mygig radio already working , I will complete my installation of the bluetooth module.
I have installed a 2007 SRT cluster and a 2006 FCM/TIPM but it is giving me grief.
I have return all to stock , upgrade as much as I can with the Appcar and AlphaOBD , then I will install the cluster only.
A thing I read on the SRT cluster with a scan tool was that "Stealth Police" was enable and I had lost the trunk lid door with the switch in the handle (it s a Magnum) . I recall reading the trunk switch going disabled on Chargers with stealth mode enabled. I will study that later.
From what I see Alpha OBD does not offer a lot on a 05/07 LX . How is that with 08/10 ?
