All,

I'm currently at 25k on my 2013 SE, I am aware that in covered for 100,000 on the power train, however I was thinking about purchasing a extended warranty, to cover stuff like electrical or suspension issues down the line

One quote I got from moparserviceplans.com was a 5 year plan (New Max Care) @ $2,656.80 or 99 a month for 24. Is this the norm for pricing?

Just looking for some advice

Call Ganley Dodge @ 440-232-2121 and ask for John Livingston. Tell him that Brian from BND Automotive LLC Referred you to him.

We have always done the Max Care as it takes care of 5007 components. We have used that warranty for front suspension issues, transmission issues, air conditioning, electrical. With the amount of electrical systems in these new cars, it is imperative that you have protection from these potential problem areas. Powertrain is just that and nothing more. Those almost never have an issue for 100,000 miles anyway. It is the peripheral ones that really stick you!

You have the ability to get the Max Care for up to 4 years or 48,000 miles!:beerchug:

That's where I was going to get mine through... looks like the site is down?

Do you expect to pay more than 2,600 or 3,300 in repairs before you tire of the car and trade it in?

My current 2007 Charger - only oil changes
2003 Focus - ignition covered under service bulliten + oil changes, tires and brakes
2011 Fiesta - Oil changes and tires
2014 C-Max, nothing so far.

Casinos are regulated :)

Extended warranty companies (NON OEM) are famous for going out of business after a few years of collecting money and never paying out on any claims.

The OEM MaxCare Warranty is a great deal. I've had it on both my '06 SRT and my wife's '05 Grand Caravan. In both cases, they have more than paid for themselves with the repairs the covered.

The other thing to remember about the MaxCare Warranty is that if you sell your vehicle, the unused portion of the warranty is reimbursed to you directly (see warranty for details).

I'm with you Ddaddy. Have had 5 Max Care warranties on different cars we had from our 93 Imperial to our 2006 SRT8 and they have always paid for themselves. Having a rental car to drive for a few days alone is worth the price so that you don't miss work!:rocker:

you guys must have some bad luck with cars. I haven't had to hardly use the factory warranty much less an extended warranty.

Not really, but (as you well know) cars are very complex these days and system failures can be very expensive to repair. Only one or two issues can easily cost the full price of the extended OEM warranty.

What is the price of simply replacing a PCM with diagnosis costs, parts, labor, reprogramming, etc.?

My point is, even if i had to go borrow money for a repair, Im $thousands$ ahead after 30 years of not buying extended warranties and service contracts that have been offered to me. Every time they start their sales pitch my wife says "Youre wasting your breath, he's not gonna buy it." Maybe Im very lucky, but I cant even remember the last time Ive seen even check engine light.

Oh, see, you should have told us that you were The Chosen One who never has car repairs. :grin2:

I've never once owned a car that is 100% Trouble Free...must be nice!

It also depends how long you hold on to cars. I had my Charger for almost 9 years. The car before that was close to 5.

In my 22 years of car ownership, I've had 7 cars...and that includes the $250 junkers I drove in high school and college that would be lucky to last a year before blowing up and being sold for scrap. Like I said, I usually hold on to cars for a lot longer than most people.

1994 Bronco - Sold with 195,000 miles (@ approx 130k, had to replace front u-joints)
2003 Focus - Sold with 95k miles, only non wear item, ignition lock broke, Ford paid
2004 Explorer - lease turned in after 3 yrs 50k miles no problems
2007 Charger - no problems when sold at 38k miles
2011 Fiesta - 48k miles, recently developed a minor HVAC issue
2007 Charger - purchased used with 10k miles, now at 30k no problems for original owner or me
2014 C-Max - 6k miles, no problems

That's a LOT of cars to spend 2-3k on each with probably zero benefit.

You've also gotten rid of a lot of those cars with low mileage. You've had 6 cars made within the last 15 years.

It ultimately depends on whether you trade in vehicles fairly often, or if you hold on to them forever, or put high mileage on them. I just bought my third post-2000 car:

2001 Sebring Convertible: Bought an 85K mile warranty through Chrysler. Water Pump failure at 65,000 miles paid for the cost of the warranty.

2006 Charger: Had an 85K Warranty...never used it....after the warranty ran out, I had several problems with it, would have saved money by buying the Lifetime Warranty.

I've had my Challenger for just over two months....I've already got almost 6,000 miles on it. I average a little more than 500 miles a week in just driving to work and home.

If you can afford it, I'd totally recommend the Maximum Care warranty. We purchased it for just under $4,000.00 at the time we bought my car. It has easily paid for itself already. I have had to have my radio/navigation unit ($1,500.00 part) replaced no less than 5 times since I've had the car for various different reasons (clearly the unit just sucks, has anyone else had issues with theirs?)...along with just a few other random expensive parts...but each time I took it in for warranty replacement, $100 is all it cost me. As long as that warranty is available on our Chargers, I will purchase it over and over again.

I think a big factor would be how long you plan on keeping your car. It is what you're comfortable with.

I don't recall a lifetime warranty being offered when I got my Stratus, but I'd have taken it. I just dropped about $1700 on repairs. I've spent several thousand dollars on repairs over the course of ownership. Currently it has nearly 206K on it. It still has some minor issues that I'd have taken care of if it were under warranty.

The warranty on my 1993 Daytona paid for itself. New cylinder heads, trans rebuild among other things.

Since I plan on keeping my Charger for at least 15 years, and knowing how repairs can add up quickly, I went with a MaxCare $0 deductible. No issues so far, but I am not worried about repairs should something crop up in 10 years.

I don't consider 195k or 95k low mileage

Still own the Fiesta, it's accumulating mileage :) Charger isn't going anywhere either!

Cars have gotten very very good. The Chrysler valve dropping issue is probably the best reason for having an extended warranty.

I was more looking at your collection of sub-50K cars...oh to be rich. :D

Too much can (and will) go wrong with these cars. The Nav radio alone is a $1800 part, and I've seen enough of them go bad that I don't trust mine to last the life of the car.

The radar sensor for the ACC is around $2k, and each of the blind spot radars are around $1k. I've heard about quite a few folks having to replace those, and I'd rather not have to shell out that kind of money to keep my non-essential gadgets working if they fail.

I plan on driving my Charger into the ground, or at least passing it on to one of my kids sometime. Of course, I also said that about my "old" 2013 Charger, so take that statement with a grain of salt.

I had the Lifetime $100 deductible Max Care on the '13, but when I traded it in, I got the money back, minus a very fair fee. That money went straight towards the Max Care on my '14.

I keep the cars I like. I've got a '99 Wrangler, and a couple of summers ago I needed to replace the exhaust manifold because the crack in it had gotten so large that it was causing problems besides the exhaust noise. Every shop I called quoted me at least $900 to replace it. I ended up doing it myself for around $200, but I can safely say that I spent 16 hours on it, because I needed to take it apart three times before I got it right. Now I've got a rear main seal leak that I need to take care of, so it'll be another $500 or a ton of my time to repair a very messy job.

I also had a '95 Cherokee that I'dkept purring like a kitten until my daughter totaled it this summer - a day after I replaced the hydraulic clutch line. I don't want to think about the money I've spent over the years keeping that vehicle running, but I can guarantee it was much more than the Max Care warranty cost.

If you drive a car long enough, you will have to make repairs. Sure, the cars are much better today than they were a couple of decades ago, but water pumps still go out, gaskets start leaking, AC systems crap out, electronics age and fail, the list goes on.

I put 30k miles on my '13 Charger in the thirteen months I owned it. For me, the Lifetime Max Care plan was an amazing option. Likewise on my '14.

Does Chrysler still offer the Lifetime Bumper to Bumper Unlimited Miles Warranty? I own a 2008 Dodge Charger RT R&T and I purchased the Bumper to Bumper Unlimited Miles Lifetime Warranty when I purchased my car brand new back in March 2008. I still have the Warranty on my car even after owning it for 7 years.
Does Chrysler still offer this same warranty that I have? I'm going to need to look for a 2nd car in September after my Toyota Prius lease is up. I'm debating whether I should lease another Toyota or to buy. I drive 22,000 to 25,000 miles per year. I was thinking that it would be worth buying if the car that I purchased had the Bumper to Bumper Lifetime Unlimited Miles Warranty just like I have for my 2008 Charger RT R&T. If Chrysler offers this type of warranty, then I would by another Dodge. But if not, I would probably lease another Toyota or even a Honda for the economy.
Does anybody know if Chrysler still offers this type of warranty?
