I've seen conflicting information about how to disable the Auto Door Locks. Some say its in a menu on their 8.4 UConnect; others have said the dealer has to turn it off. I would like it disabled, since I frequently pull up and drop kids off and hear "Dad! Unlock the doors I can't get out!"
Well that's one reason; another is if the car were in a bad situation and I was unable to unlock the doors, I'd like them to be able to get out.
Obviously door locks are supposed to keep people from opening the doors from the outside. But when the doors are locked on my car, it prevents the people in the backseat from opening the doors. Only the front doors open when you pull the handle.
I have no plans to drive into water or otherwise trap my kids in the backseat of my car; but if something were to happen, their safety is dependent on the driver's ability to unlock the doors.
Child locks prevent the door from opening from the inside, even if the doors are unlocked. I've checked those, and they are functioning properly.
With regard to the lock posts, my seven year old needs to increase his finger strength and pull that thing up! As much button-pushing as kids do these days, you'd think it would be easy for them.
Anyway, I guess some UConnect systems have an option for it; others don't. Ive also heard of a "push this then pull that 3 times..." approach to disable the lock, but I think it's for the previous generation cars. Don't care how it's accomplished; I just want the auto lock turned off.
Thanks for everyone's input!

2014 R/T Passat - just kidding, its a Charger...
or maybe you didn't read my post... I'm trying to confirm (see question in the TITLE of this thread) if in fact "only dealer can turn off?"
I'm trying to find out if there's another known way to shut it off, or if I really have to have the dealer do it.
Auto UNLOCK only works when you stop and put the car in Park. In some situations, where the car doesn't get back into park, people in the backseat are trapped.
I seem to have ruffled some feathers in my first posts on here. I apologize. A local guy's car went into the river here, and he escaped. His kid in the back seat did not make it out. I think about that every time one of my kids tells me to let them out.
Stopped at a dealer today, and explained my situation. Service writer first said that its a safety feature and that it would be illegal to turn off. :serious: I pressed a little harder and he put me in touch with a tech.
Tech said "sure lets see what we can find on the scanner" - then looked in the section called "User Preferences" or "User Options"...
He unplugged the wireless device from the OBD port and it was fixed. So if anyone else cares to do the same, ask at your next visit.
And this is why we don't trust service writers, they make stuff up. Illegal? I get why its' the default, same reason that the unlock press only unlocking the drivers side door. But do make it easy to undo for those of us who choose that.
2019 charger takes forever to auto lock the doors. Neighborhood speed limit is 25mph (dealer said 15mph would activate lock) and I have to drive several miles to traffic light before the doors lock. Very unsafe. Any solutions?

After you exceed 15 mph and they don't lock, try letting off the gas then getting back on it and once you pass thru 15 mph again they should lock. I read something on this once and they said to do this if they didn't lock and works on my car.
I assume you're replying to "I have to drive several miles to traffic light before the doors lock. Very unsafe." If so, the obvious answer is that the poster lives in a war-stricken slumville neighborhood and fears car-jacking within several miles of home.
That said... they only posted one message here, ever. And never came back. So... probably a troll, and a lazy one at that.
I also want to disable the auto-lock. My 2016 Ram had the setting in the Uconnect screen, but my new 2022 Charger does not. Pic attached of missing option to check/uncheck. I guess I will contact service dept.....at least the Charger does not have the stupid Auto-Idle stop
